A pit viper that lays eggs. Gets a couple feet shy of a king cobra and has fangs/venom that can rival a gaboon. Strike range is insane and shear size for a viper is menacing and pretty much unrivaled. Such a cool snake. My favorite is the blackheaded bushmaster.
@jjoohhhnn Жыл бұрын
It sounds like the venom is I want to say better but I'll go with different. The Bushmaster has neurotoxins, like a cobra, and those individually can kill you, or the cytotoxins which it sounds like are more dangerous than a rattle snake but less dangerous than a Gaboon Viper (individually), but I would argue together their venom is more dangerous, and it's probably a more dangerous snake generally. Strike speed of a rattle snake/pit viper, strike distance of a black mamba, and the venom of both, because why not? And they get the size of a medium sized adult Burmese python, because of course that's necessary. Why WOULDN'T you need venom glands like that when the largest native animal in your environment is a tapir?
@EliteNugz Жыл бұрын

Easily the most terrifying snake I've ever seen but I fully agree with your assessment: they KNOW they can kill you with ease but decide if you're worth the effort of striking/envenomating/replenishing the venom. Basically the opposite of the Fierce Snake as they seem to not want to deal with anyone and prefer to be shy and hide. Side note: I refound that book, Clint! I once read the account of someone who got bitten in the thumb by one. It was a very young snake and still tiny, relatively speaking,which was probably the saving grace as it couldn't deliver as much venom per bite. The person who was bit had their hand swell to about twice its size and suffered excrutiating, throbbing pain. It took about three weeks until the symptoms fully subsided. So the thought of what an adult snake that's like five times the size could do with a much bigger dose of venom... Not pleasant.
@williambeilfuss8138 Жыл бұрын
Actually younger snakes don't know to properly control how much venom they release so a bite from a young snake is often worse than a bite from an adult.
@davidwilliams377 Жыл бұрын
@@williambeilfuss8138 That’s a myth. Been disproven a bit ago. Baby snakes have full control of their venom. If they didn’t and wasted their venom they wouldn’t be able to hunt, kill, and predigest prey as that’s the purpose of venom. Due to adults’ larger venom yield they are more dangerous.

5:09 it makes me sad to see that they were forcefully milking the snake of its venom. I went to my local Serpentarium a few months ago, where I got to see venom extraction from a venomous snake for the first time. The snakes in question were Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakes. So to see whoever was milking the Bushmaster in this video pressing on the venom glands makes me feel sorry for the snake.

I love when they were looking at lizards outside with Dav Kaufman and Chandler came up and just tackled Clint out of nowhere.

I tried breeding captive Bushmasters. I put a mated pair in my Mother in Law's pillow case. Both bit her. I feel so bad--Both snakes convulsed for an hour before they died--Mother in Law didn't notice the bite.

Anyone crazy enough to want a bushmaster their is a guy who breeds captive ones. Venom central is the name of his channel. He breeds two or three different species of bushmasters and the lance head vipers. Also he breeds Neotropical rattlesnakes. I wouldn't take a chance owning a bushmaster but I love rattlesnakes and have kept many. At least if a rattlesnake bites me I'll most likely survive.

Growing up here in Brazil these snakes were very present in my parents bedtime stories. Grew up knowing them as “pico de jaca” (because of their skin texture similar to a jackfruit) and also as “surucucu” (which in Tupi means “the one that bites multiple times”). My parents used to say they would knock on people’s doors with their bony tail lol. It’s amazing to see such a beautiful and mysterious animal, they’re almost mythical to me.

Never knew much about these but always thought they were one of the coolest looking snakes EVER

Bushmasters ARE really cool. And pretty too. They’re amazing, probably almost as amazing as you are Clint :)

these guys along with the ferdelance are native to where i live and pretty much everyone knows not to mess with them, bushmasters in particular have a notorious rep because they're standoffish and will fight before flight in most cases.....fortunately they live in the more remote forested parts of the country so human interaction is at a minimal, it also plays into why we call them bushmaster because in the forest(bush) they're king....kinda like the lion is to africa

Here in Brazil we call it "Pico de Jaca", because the scales look like jackfruit, when you run your hand over this snake, it literally has the same texture.

Honestly I feel like Clint and Chandler have a lot of the same enthusiasm but Chandler is a lot more hyper with it than Clint. Man, this was a cool video!

With the tail spike and the back spikes, it's like a guiro or a xelophone-turned-murder weapon, with the (mostly) chill vibes to boot!

So happy to see some Bushmaster love. Have you considered making a video on Rhabdophis tigrinus? I would love to hear your thoughts on it as a species, even if it would make a poor pet.

When I think of what the epitome of a Grand and Lethal Serpent, the Bushmaster comes to mind. They are SOOOO GORGEOUS! I love how Clint described his experience. That bad ass snake doesn't have to say anything, he knows what he is and doesn't need to prove it.

Clint could you do a great white shark video? Also, amazing video as always.
@darthplagueis13 Жыл бұрын
Well, that's a jolly 0/5 in every category. We're talking about an animal that can bite your limbs clean off, requires a habitat the size of a fjord, that is not being bred in captivity, is illegal to hunt or capture and that has never been successfully kept alive in captivity for extended periods of time. Great whites aren't even feasible to keep for the largest aquariums in the world, so they are as close to the worst pet fish anyone could have as it gets.
@ClintsReptiles Жыл бұрын
I'd like that! We have a phylogeny of white sharks already.

Chandler doesn't get enough credit for the insane amount of knowledge he has of the animals he keeps. Through all the goofiness and silliness of his personality the guy really does know his stuff.
