I think what they might be implying is that he has had multiple victories during the clone wars, but because this show focuses more on the good guys they are only showing the few times Grievous was unsuccessful.

I'm only in season 4 but so far I think Grievous is my favorite villain with Cad Bane as my second favorite villain from this series. And like others said its nice to see him win a battle for once, kinda wanted him to win this one. I really liked this episode.
