For an almost 100 year old film, the acting is the best I have ever seen. Today’s films don’t compare to the past

Finally, my prayers are answered and I can throw the wretched 2005 DVD away! Thank you WB! This film was one of the glories of the old 3-strip technicolor process and deserves its restoration. And then, there is Korngold's magnificent 'techniclor' score matching every fabulous frame. I can hardly wait for its release!!!

Why was it so hard for some American actors to nail down a standard English accent? I'm not necessarily talking about regional dialects like Scouse or Mancunian, but something close to Received Pronunciation. The transatlantic inflections are all too evident in this dialogue. They should have cast English acting talent for the principal roles.

Flynn was born in Australia and parents were of Irish, English and Scottish descent. And he worked in Northampton and London before he made it big in Hollywood. And imagine not casting Bette Davis when given the chance.

@thebeatnumber - Don't want to appear overly pedantic, but the English accent that we recognize today has barely been around for a century; actually, about the late 19th century. In the late 16th century, the period of this film, the accent would have been unrecognizable to all but English language historians or researchers. Having actors fake a modern English accent for a late Renaissance film set in England is not much worse than casting a British actor for the role. So, does it really matter? I think quality of the talent is of greater importance.
