One thing that stands out in this finale over the first and second movies is that McCall is on the offensive. The previous two movies, he's up against more professional villains while fighting more defensively on home turf. Here, the villains are little more than thugs and McCall is directly assaulting their ground. He even starts with using a gun!

Exactly, he wasn't waiting for the bad guys to find him he was finnding and ending them before they could be a problem for him I think its because when the movie starts he is shot in the back by that kid and he isn't at his full strength throughout the movie so can't afford to be at a disadvantage.

That's one way to explain it. What I think is that you see from the first movie to this one how he progressively gets more brutal. The more he breaks his promise to his wife, the more he goes back to what he did before

Like I said in another comment. McCall was playing on easy mode here. These guys were no challenge to him at all. The only challenge for him was deciding how to go about dismantling them. In the last 2 movies he went up against real threats, this time it was like he was playing against children who thought they were adults. Poor guys never stood a chance.

Indeed, but it was probably because McCall was also committed to the cause of his killing. While the mafia had less than 6 minutes left to live, there was still a chance that someone might end up taking him to the hospital and save him, so McCall also makes sure that the mafia was really gone.

This film captures the duality of Robert Mccall. On the surface a wise ,patient, caring soul, with only good intentions. But! That can switch to a cold brutal merciless emotionless and calculated making him almost unlikable but only because he is doing it for noble reasons you like him more. Denzel is brilliant at doing both

If you watch all 3 movies now 2 or 3 times, you'll notice that Denzel/this story presents McCall as rather "apathetically suicidal" - he doesn't necessarily *want* to die, but he doesn't particularly care if he does die, as long as it's in the service of good. He's still a soldier, but for values that are specific to his worldview rather than a government's. I think he's probably regretful of the destruction he caused in the past, and views his own potential death as a kind of karmic or divine consequence. On top of that, just generally speaking, he is a mildly traumatized veteran with no known family members or kids, no romantic partners, etc.@@djack1231

This was one of the most brutal ways to kill i have ever seen. It tortures him physically as his body slowy goes into overdose. It psychologically tortured him by telling him he has exactly 5 minutes to live before he dies of an overdose. Mcall followed him during the bosses futile attempts to escape. The guy was the big boss who was at the top of his own organization with everything from drugs to money. He ends up dying weak, alone in a lowly allyway

I am italian and as a native italian speaker I was curious to see how good Denzel was with the language, so I went for the original version (in Italy pretty much everything gets dubbed) guys he is seriously good, seriously. 5:27 "Dobbiamo tutti affrontare la morte" that was spot on. Matter of fact, the mafia guys speak in a very strict super dialect I can't even understand, actually I can't even tell if it's Naples or Sicily dialect. I wanted to point out that, either he was coached, or it's just Denzel being a pro actor as usual. One of my all time favourite actors.

Supposedly his character was CIA. CIA do not work in this manner per se. Matter of fact IF ya get a glimpse of them for more than a shadowy second they have failed their mission. Their work is done so that no one knows anything and what little evidence may be gathered, it is either planted or planned beforehand. Hollywood may guess at what the CA does, but, they have no REAL CLUE and no one within the org will ever speak about it in person. And that includes to their own families. Eraser was more accurate than this fairy tale.

I believe it was said once that even in a bad movie, a great actor will do his or her part to do the very best in it. Frances McDormand and John malkovich were in the transformer movies along with Sir Anthony hopkins, you had Al Pacino and movies like Gigli and Jack and Jill. You even have Rita Moreno in fast X. Who could forget Raul Julia in Street Fighter? These actors and actresses have a tendency to rise above the quality of the film, no matter what. It's not easy, but it's doable.

Literally the most brutal way I've seen Robert McCall kill someone in the Equalizer franchise. Slowly walking behind a man that's overdosing and humming a tune while doing it. Incredibly messed up but so deserving for the villain in this installment

This is what overdosing on pills actually looks like. The fact that people think this is a peaceful way to go (specifically in regards to ending one's own life) is a major misconception.

In truth, Denzel didn't have much to do here. These guys are just stupid wiseguys used to abusing civilians who can't fight back. When they're up against a guy with actual combat and black ops skills, they're just clay pigeons for him. Nikolai in the first movie was far more formidable.
@Vaporious2000
@Vaporious2000 9 ай бұрын
Agreed, they really needed a villain who could push Denzel to his limits to the point where it wouldn't be clear if he could come out on top; almost like a dark mirror to his own character who stayed a ruthless killer and never became a "good guy". Liam Neeson would've been perfect for this role.

Denzel absolutely remind me of fantastic stealth move of death on rainbow six without nightvision. All stabbed and cut through are really tremendeous critical kills. It shows that this mafia group end their lives not instantly, but painfull at maximum threat. And bos at the end saving his lifes for 10 minutes of painful from inside, not outside with Denzel follow him until dead. This is beauty revenge. Equalizer series are my fav movies ever

In the previous movies, despite Robert’s coldness, he still gave the vibe of a hero, and someone who believes in hope and wants to spread it. Here? He is portrayed as a monster in in an horror movie, and the mafia are the stupid teens in the tends in the forest. I wonder why Robert’s character changed a bit.
