Synopsis: In this pilot (produced by Eddie Murphy) for a series that was never sold, the setting is in St. Louis at a barbershop called "Clippers." The show follows the misadventures of the barbershop's owner, Mel (John Amos), and his family and co-workers.

Yeah he had a outgoing personality in the 1990s he was in every movie and tv show he was making that money, he seems to stay private he barely does anything nowadays funny how life can be.

They didn't have the money at first. But they did show a lot of defunct tv shows like baby I'm back. They also had a game show called tell me something good. Ed Gordon was on. They did politics really well. Video soul. Video vibrations. Teen summit. Rap city. They did VERY well for a small time network that wasn't supported by every cable provider.

John Amos is a slept on actor. I could have seen him in more movies...he has played a variety of characters and I thought he was great.

@@fameismine2 The other show was called New Attitude which aired one year earlier on ABC. Sheryl Lee Ralph and Morris Day also starred in that sitcom. There are a couple of episodes here on KZbin.

91 isnt a good year for Eddie Murphy in the sitcom department. The Royal.Family with Redd Foxx was cancelled because of sudden passing of Redd Foxx and now Clippers didn't get greenlight. Even though Barbershop movies was probably inspired by this show

From what I heard, The Royal Family started out strong in the ratings, and when Redd Foxx passed away, the ratings slid down week by week.

Hollywood was blocking Eddie. They were scared of how good Harlem Nights turned out. He did that without their help and that didn't sit well with them....

Boomerang REALLY scared them! All black cast and all the white people in the movie were subservient to black people! Speaking of, one of the things I’ve come to like about Tyler Perry is he does the SAME. He makes white people 2nd fiddle, almost lampooning them to a degree.

This show could have made it today with the right marketing. They should take these old shows and promote them on streaming channels. money could still be made with some of them.

watching right now as im typing and im entirely shocked i had no idea of this show until now. If they would've just given this show a chance, i definitely feel this show would've taken its place along with shows such as The Fresh Prince, Martin, Wayans bros, Cosby show and others. This cast is powerful! Eddie was a genius

I don't even remember this show airing or ever been mentioned. I remember Amos on a show called 701 Hauser around this time which was a Archie Bunker spinoff with Amos family living in the Bunker house. It didn't last long.

Not bad, better than some of the crap that came out around this time (Homeboys in Outer Space!) John Amos was an underrated actor and held his own with the great dame Cicily Tyson, and Phyllis Yvonne Stickley looked amazing.

Terrible casting for the X wife Cicely Tyson was 67 years old and a senior citizen John Amos was only 52 she looks way to old to play this character also she goes out and smuts for three years then returns to him after she’s sick like Jenny in Forest Gump FOH lol
