What is the most common thing that owners ask an avian vet to do? Please clip or trim my bird's nails. There are a number of reasons why a bird's nails may be overgrown, the main one being that in captivity they don't have the same opportunities to wear their nails down like their wild counterparts. We strongly recommend bringing your bird to an avian vet for regular nail grooming. In this video Dr Phil Sacks explains why and shows you how it's done. As a side note, this is the oldest lorikeet that we see at the practice. 24 years!!!
