Why would on clip the queens wing? To prevent swarming? If not, please let me know. Interested.
@redzwashere3 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for watching. It's not swarm preventing but more control of swarming when it happens. When she tries to leave the box the swarm wont get far. Easier recovery of the swarm.

Some really nice big fat queens .. Worth good money around here .. How much does a queen bring in Jamaica ? About 35.00 in Michigan .. I mail them all over the states .. People will drive 130 miles oneway at times even
@redzwashere4 жыл бұрын
Thanks much, it cost about $23 in Jamaica for mated queen. Queen rearing isn't so popular where there is a high demand for them sadly.

As I see you picking up the queen, I remember the sting I got this morning in the cuticle of my finger nail, smh so painful!. Do you have any idea what happen to the 4th one?
@redzwashere4 жыл бұрын
She abscond. I have no idea why, there were no sign of pest. So I'm going to change to the type of hive stands you use in your apiary.

Did you clip both wings?
@redzwashere3 жыл бұрын
Yes i did, what i find that happens is because she can't fly they will supercede her instead of swarming.

@@redzwashere thanks for your reply. I beekeep in St. Thomas. And I follow Michael P and Ian S like you do. I believe if we are able to figure out for Jamaica what they have figured out for their area, we will change the Apriculture
@redzwashere3 жыл бұрын
I can completely agree with you on that. But key thing to note though is that they aren't only just beekeepers they are also farmers. What they are doing is using their crops to produce nectar for the bees and then in turn reap the produce ie buck wheat and sun flowers. If we are to be as productive as they are its necessary to find a crop that you can have your bees forage nectar from. Thanks for your support

Why do you clip and mark the queen?
@redzwashere4 жыл бұрын
The wings are clipped as a swarm control measure so she is not able to fly away. For the marking process that is the keep track of the queens age and for you to be able find her much more easier. For most beekeepers they do record keeping for each queen and introduce a new queen every 2 or 3 years to keep up the egg laying production.
