"Blood of the Fang" from There Existed an Addiction to Blood
Vinyl, CD, Cassette: u.subpop.com/T...
The "Blood of the Fang" video is inspired by a photo of Huey Newton - co-founder of The Black Panther Party for Self-Defense - hand-cuffed to a hospital gurney while being treated for a gunshot wound in the abdomen after a gun battle with Oakland police in October 1967.
The song itself is built around a sample from Sam Waymon’s score to the 1973 experimental vampire film 'Ganja & Hess.' Daveed Diggs’s lyrics conjure an alternate history of black political struggle in the 1960s and 70s, name-dropping radical activists and reimagining them as a pantheon of undead superheroes fighting against systems of oppression.

I hate to speak for the artist, but this seems to be(to me) a song about being proud, even militantly proud of who you are, specifically for black folks. He's basically talking about how the black movement has waited long enough to rise the fuck up. I found this song from the movie this song samples. The children chanting and the "By the Christians it is written that in the Black Myrthian Age... There existed an addiction to blood" are from the 1973 movie Ganja & Hess, a movie about a man cursed by an ancient artefact and becomes addicted to blood. Powerful movie about power, sex, religion, death, and race in America. I'd recommend it.

Is that that movie where the last 4th of the entirety of the movie is the director staring into the camera smoking a joint and just kind of talking about philosophy or something. There is a movie like that if this if this isn't the one then it reminds me of it I'll have to find it

I’ve been listening to this song several times a day almost every day since mid July. I’ve also been learning about the black panthers during that time. I’m ready Revolutionary Suicide right now, but the context didn’t make sense for me until now and it’s shifted this whole video into perspective. Of course this is just my personal interpretation of it: I don’t think it’s necessary to point out that the song is about the Black Panther Party because that’s pretty obvious. I do think it’s worth mentioning that I think the context for the first scene makes sense being inspired by Huey Newton’s visit to Kaiser Hopsital after being accused of being in a police shootout that resulted in the death of officer John Frey. When Huey was stopped by police and being arrested, he was shot in the stomach by one of the officers. He was taken to Kaiser Hospital and was immediately chained to the examining table and beaten on by the police. According to Huey in his book, police also was continually harassed by police during his recovery but that’s all explained in Revolutionary Suicide. Taking that event into account and it all sort of clicks into perspective.
