Great video as usual from you, my daughter has the Clock, fantastic stove, she just burns ovals, yes glass gets dirty but CIF cream takes it off so easily. She bought a Recoheat system and had it added, I kid you not, it keeps her whole house really warm, I have solid fuel central heating, canny beat it, Ken whit a mean😂. Kind regards from Scotland 🏴

That coal lasted well. Something to start a fresh fire with in the morning even. What brand and name of coal was used on the test? Have you tried the Ecoal from Home fire?

I have a 5kw penman stove [new in 2022], instructions for this stove and most brands for using smokeless coal is 0.75 kilo per hour of coal [7 to 8 lumps]. I start with wood, when it's burned down I add 8 to 10 lumps of coal, an hour later another 8 lumps about 1.5 hours later before I go out I add another 8 lumps [1pm] at 3pm I add another 8 lumps, that will last until gone 7pm when I add another 8 lumps, if I leave it lit all night I add 8 lumps around 11pm, I start off with bottom vent fully open, once burning I fully close the vent as there is plenty of air getting in [that varies from brand to brand] my room is 21ft x 12 and gets up to 30c , by that point doors are opened and heat is circulating the house to 17c [3 bed 1970s semi] Coal has a heat output of 8kw per kilo and wood 4kw per kilo I advise if using coal to buy some vermiculite bricks, cut to size and line the fire box as coal burns through faster. now part way through my 3rd season and the back brick is going thin, the 2 side bricks are a bit worn , also by adding the extra fire bricks you don't need as much coal to fill the fire box and the bonus is you won't have to replace the original fire bricks very often as they don't get damaged The first coal fire I had in this stove I used 26 lumps of coal, with both vents fully closed the stove thermometer was edging past the red zone at 300c 600f [too hot]

Great video as always. We have the mendip christon 400 insert stove thanks for reviewing inserts. A lot of people disgard them we cannot fault ours. It cracks the heat out and has enabled us to keep our edwardian / victorian fireplace and surround including tiless etc. Keep up the good work. ❤❤

@@Swerve744 that’s the beauty of 400mm wide insets. Yes - I’ve got one that I put into a traditional fireplace myself. My parents have one also. I use insets a lot in smaller openings. In some newer houses where you can’t physically make a decent sized fireplace for a freestanding stove, an inset fire can be a much better option. It’s also an option often totally overlooked Many thanks and Happy Christmas 🎄

Thank you for the wonderful video. Would you say the wood gives off more heat than the smokeless fuel, my dear?
@naturalheatinghellfirepizzaАй бұрын
It’s very different to be fair. Much slower release heat / long burn time than wood. Wood definitely kicks more heat out - but then, if I was burning say 1.5kg per hour of wood, I’ve have loaded probably 3x to the first load of smokeless… which was 3kg in weight. I like wood… for cleanliness, heat, flame, renewability etc… but thought I’d run this through on smokeless as have had a lot of requests to do so with this model . I can’t really give a precise answer I’m afraid, but hope this helps. The manufacturer may know a tested output of heat to volume for both wood and smokeless. I would think they will - but unfortunately I’m away at the moment so can’t try and look up. Hth

As a rule of thumb, 1 kilo of wood burns at 4kw per hour and 1 kilo of coal burns at 8kw per hour

Have you guys ever tried out the Contura 210? I'm trying to find some reliable reviews.

sorry. I'm not currently a Contura stockist (never say never - just other dealers in close proximity)... so unfortunately don't intend buying them at the moment just to review.... Apologies

Thank you my dear for your replies, I hope you don’t mind. Can I rattle your brain? A lot of people say not to use a temperature gauge on the flue .How would you know if your fire is burning too hot or too low? How would you gauge that? For instance? Would you say leave your fire? Always on halfway? I just had a clock Blithfield fitted Yesterday, please could you help me with this dilemma? Many thanks, Marcus.
