I don't know the specifics, but I know the original visuals were created on an Amiga. It's possible that the "flickering" inversion effect was done entirely in the computer. The Amiga has video output, so I originally assumed this was edited on videotape, but in fact the framing around the edges shifts around quite a bit so maybe it was transferred to film and edited on film instead. You can get this kind of rapid editing on film, it just takes a lot of work. For a more "analog" example of this see the Cabaret Voltaire videos on my channel. Digital video editing was already a thing in 1993, but I doubt they used it here since the systems were very expensive and AFAIK the output quality wasn't great. It matured pretty quickly though -- by 1995 you had groups like Emergency Broadcast Network making some crazy videos with it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYK9pH6Ni5mgetE
