Thanks for sharing Scottie. The skewers I've use tend to have a "stringy" grain to them. Still work though. Glad you're sharing items "common folk" will have and not have to make major ($$$) purchases yet.

@justmike57, thanks Mike, they sure work better in that condition. Actually, their tips are so hard from the process of manufacture that they can be used as-is in a cordless drill to burnish bushings.

Thank you Scottie. I’ve been trying to find something to work on in the evenings that doesn’t require a lot of room. I wanted something along the lines of watch repair but I didn’t want to make that large an investment initially. This is perfect as I’m already a hobbyist and have most everything sans wind down tool and spring hold clamps. I’ll continue to follow along and I’m actively trying to acquire a similar Gilbert movement. I can’t wait until you get into verifying pinion fit and possibly having bush the pivot points. Thanks again for taking the time to film and share your knowledge.

@allanjacobs977, sounds like you are well on the way. We wil be looking at the theory of bushing in a couple of weeks, unfortunately there is no common household tools that can be adapted for bushing clock plates. However I have a couple of videos I made not long ago that show how to do manual bushing, they cover reaming out the plate and broaching out the bush to the correct size for the pivot. Usually razor blades, sometime a craft knife.

Yes scrape the dirt out, these lantern pinions wern't very dirty, some time you have to use a toothbrush and kero if they are have old oil and dirt caked on.
