This is Tompion No. 333 made in about 1699 and everything about it to me just oozes refined quality. It's restrained and yet it's beautiful right from the very top, from the ball finials up here, the caddy top and the carved frets and then the lower one acting as a sound fret as well to let the sound from the hour bell out, the two Doric capitals, the columns, the bases, it's just restrained quality, beautiful. Because there are a few invoices within the tompion series and the numbers then fit in, it's possible to date the clocks fairly accurately against the numbering and the number 333 was made about 1699 and here's the punch mark 333 on the top style of the door, linking the movement and the case together in Tompion's workshop. If I was a lord or a courtier in William and Mary's Court and I knew that the King was coming to visit he would be very interested to see this beautiful clock.
