When I feel unsettled -> I declutter/organize "5" things = I recognize the feeling of wanting to move forward towards goals & accomplish things. After a while 'just planning" & thinking about future gets discouraging if we aren't putting into action our future goals, dreams, & aspirations. 😊

Audio time increments are awesome. Church bells that tell time are fantastic. I more time aware whenever in a house nearby that kind of bell tower.

Your section on perfection was great, and reminded me of this famous quote " Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." - Winston Churchill. All the info in your whole lecture clarified so much for me personally. Thank you!

Thank you for addressing this topic. I use the timer method and once I get going I usually do three 15 min rounds with the timer, stopping at the end of each round to get a drink. I fall into the “perfect” ideology and it keeps me from even starting so the timer has helped me with that in a small way.

It’s so true to look at the backlog and the current together. I missed that when I was working on my craft room. When I stopped the backlog to look around it was all current project and new supplies that were cluttering my desk. Now I’m going to try a reset routine after a ‘sitting’ of decluttering or creative project, thank you 😊
@TheClutterFairy5 жыл бұрын
You're so welcome! If you're any kind of crafty chick, you'll be in creation mode often, making new mess and new art! So, resetting the area after a completion will help keep your craft area functioning for you. Happy crafting!
@ArtyAntics5 жыл бұрын
The Clutter Fairy thank you, I’m good at the reset after a craft project because loosing my scissors under a pile of paper drives me crazy! I forgot to treat the decluttering as a project as it was taking me a while to sort through 15 years of supplies. I think I should have done a reset for the decluttering AND my normal projects. I also missed the new stuff coming in, I have a system for cataloguing my supplies and with all the items going out I was getting my inventory in a complete mess so I am adding that to my reset system too. I really appreciate your insight and you taking the time to respond to me.

Hello, Gayle, from Darwin, Australia. I know that I am an everything out organiser. Over the last few years I have begun to cut back on the non essentials and buying quality items. The medium term outlook is for us to move to another area of Australia for lifestyle reasons. I need to sell the place where we are living in now to make the move. I have divided the unit in half and on the first weekend of the month I do a deep clean, windows, walls of that area average around 5 hours including a standard clean of the unit (surfaces, bathroom, sweep and mop one and a half hours done weekly). During that month I go through some of the stuff and decide to keep or toss. This is mainly over the weekends. One of my sayings is "Start somewhere, and finish at the end." Though there is no real end. I have no children, so why keep x item for my kids? It is getting dealt with by me. I am now subscribed.
@TheClutterFairy5 жыл бұрын
First let me say thank you for subscribing! I appreciate it! Next let me say you're doing a great job dividing and conquering the cleaning up. If you don't have kids then you only need to save what you want. Whatever else that comes into your life can be passed to someone who needs it now. Good luck on selling your house! A clean, decluttered place always sells better than the opposite. See you next month then - thanks again!

I do the OHIO plan. Which stands for only handle it one. I am a neat and very organized person. But I still like to learn from you. I shred all my paper as it comes into my home. I then clean out my shredder afterwards too. I cannot stand clutter and I think twice before I buy now. If I don't have a use for the item or a place in my home I don't buy. Thank you for all you do.

In my family when we are doing a big clean up job we always listen to music. Turn the tv off and put on an album. After each song or each album take a break or move on to a different part of cleaning.

Great idea, that way it's only 3-4 minutes on each job before changing to something else.

It's as if this talk is specifically for me and my husband! Haha. If you have any specific advice for an expectant mom, I would be grateful. We're trying to keep baby items minimalistic but I'm not sure if that will be respected by others once baby is here. And we're trying to clean up our own crap before they arrive in 3 months! Again, this talk although should be common sense, I think is a problem of ours and why it seems we've hardly gotten anywhere in months! Thank you!!
@TheClutterFairy5 жыл бұрын
Right now 3 months seems miles away, but your energy level is going to be dropping off as the months go by. Better to tackle it now before your ankles have disappeared and you can't bend over at all or get out of a chair. Kinda hard to declutter then! Like I said in the video. Don't try to work the whole project to completion in one sitting. Instead, plan how long you can work in one sitting, and schedule that repeatedly until you feel the pregnancy prevents it, because at 8 1/2 months, you're not going to feel like you can do anything. And remember, anything you do will help, so just aim to do repeated decluttering sessions between now and then. Good luck to you!!

My husband CAN stay focused longer. But he doesn't even go to the bathroom. But it's only on computer work or problem solving. He basically finishes the task. Kathy B
@tsambikasabineiakovidis77554 жыл бұрын
Other issues about time management on one big project are the external interruptions. If you choose to spend like 3 hours for that particular closet or whatever, this is never gonna happen, you'll get some phone calls, you will have to solve some problems about the kids, your husband would remind you that he needs his very important suit for the next morning big meeting that you forgot to pick up at the dry-cleaners... 🤔
@TheClutterFairy4 жыл бұрын
Tsambika Sabine Iakovidis there is definitely an ancillary skill of finding out about other stuff that causes interruptions and talking a note to get back to those things later, in an hour, scheduling time to handle them and returning to the task at hand. May not work for kids, but you can let calls go to voice mail for an bit, look at calendar and schedule for pick up time for the suit etc. Maybe work an hour, then stop to answer a phone call. Then work another hour then stop to go get suit, etc. You can't stop interruptions but you can learn to manage them around your task instead. Good luck!!

I am so ADHD that 25 minutes is too long for me. I do 10 on, walk around the main floor, get a drink, or go to the washroom for 5. In fact, there are days I do 2 minutes on 2 off a lot. Paper clutter gets done, but it’s emails that get ahead of me right now. I have been thinking of deleting 10 emails and unsubscribing to one of them every time I pick up my phone.

I'm with you on this. I cleared a whole dining table that had been piled with things for a long time by removing only three things every time I passed the table. By removing the easiest three things each time, it took about two weeks to clear the whole table. Chipping away at things slowly but frequently works.
@TheClutterFairy5 жыл бұрын
If 25 minutes is too much, then stick to your preferred 10 minutes per session. Whatever works and keeps you going forward. I have a friend who keeps five different stations around the house, each stocked with favorite supplies and a different topic or task. Then she rotates from location 1 to 2, 2 to 3 and so on. As she lands at each station she does a little more work on the task at hand. The result is she collectively moves 5 projects forward slightly each day, but this works for her and her tasks get done eventually.

The Clutter Fairy. I think you help all types of people with organisation. I like how you break them done into specific topics. I know you did one on your beading supplies. Could you do one on organising a craft room. I’m sure the cross stitch community I am in would like that. I’ll give you a proper shout out in my next video!

Get rid of 75% of what you own, clean your home from top to bottom.....problem solved. I did it when we moved last year and my home is so easy to clean. Just a few minutes each day and its done. It's not rocket science. Just let it go. It's very freeing

Good information, but why does it take you so long to say everything? For example, it took you almost a full 6 minutes to say, "Keep everyday things handy." Could you condense your points? Time is precious, and we want to cut to the chase. Thanks!
