After 1 week of use, what do I think about this riscv64 device?

luckily they offer multiple processors. cm4 and a06. with this everything works fine. He is talking about the R01 Compute module when he talks problems about the device,

The R01 model is more for learning or experimenting with than using as a regular device. Luckily, you can swap it for a CM4 with a $20 adapter board.

Any addition work needed to make it fit or will the adapter board and cm4 fit without any modification? Might have screwed myself over as I was looking for the regular version with a cm4 and sent the ro-1 version as a gift idea for me. Just curious if I'd be able to just put the adapter and cm4 board on and have it be basically the standard model or would it still not be the same

Thank you for the review Chris. I hope Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 will be released soon and that the form factor remains the same as module 4. If so, I will consider buying a uConsole :)

Hey, thank you for giving me your experience on the model with the risc-v architecture. I'm right in that middle zone where I would have some fun trying to figure things out on it, but would definitely feel the pain of some missing software. I really appreciate your perspective on it.

Right ... this is where I thought things were going in the late 90's. I wasn't expecting the hobby to be overrun by normies on Apple Phones who just watch videos and take picture of themselves.

How are the buttons on the keyboard? They look like squishy rubber TV remote buttons that would be cumbersome to type on.

I like the buttons. Nothing like a TV remote. They feel comfortable yet solid and the click is just right. I've got no complaints other than the spacebar which I noted in the video. Since recording this video, I've been using this for note taking and playing Nethack and I'm still impressed by the keyboard. No other complaints have come up.

If you wanted to play games then you got the wrong model. R-01 has no dedicated GPU, only 1 core and 1GB of RAM. CM-4 version, for comparison, has dedicated GPU, 4 cores and 4GB of RAM

Looking at the specs, it seems that only A-04 and A-06 models feature dedicated GPU (Mali), whereas CM4 has only Cortex-A72 CPU.

None of the others have been in stock for months now. With no word when they will be. They just arnt options. The r-01 has nearly a year wait time.

So they made literally a portable console, and that is fine, until you realize your portable console does NOT have an rj 45 port, and no proper web to access a router or a switch you may want to program in the field.

firefox should be compiled for riscv64 on debian, does that work?

I haven't found a way to get it. There are issues with openssl dependency.

I thought it had Chromium web browser and a full GUI... full Raspberry Pi OS (Linux) don't know what you got? the DevTerm has keyboard issues as well and uses the same 18650 batteries

There's a few versions of the uconsole, not all come with the cm4 board which is alot nicer

Please add clarification to the description that this is the R-01 and the experience with this device will differ from the cm4. I know someone who thought this video was a review of the cm4 and canceled their order because they thought they wasted their money.
