I discovered Band-maid while searching for a Japanese band to use as a template for a writing project. I clicked on their MV of "Dice' And from then on I was hooked. And I mean hooked. like crack cocaine hooked. TBH I've not listened to a band so much or for so long without getting a little tired... But not so with these ladies. Always something challenging, exciting, fresh, new, yet familiar in every song. My wife and kids proibably think I'm crazy, but a day without Band Maid is like a day without sunshine.

You really need to get a feel for their live performances. That is where this band TRULY shines. They are first and foremost a live band. Check out their video for Freedom on the official channel from February 14 last year. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. :) I found Band-Main via a friend on Facebook who is into J-Rock. He posted their video for Thrill and I was IMMEDIATELY caught under Miku's magic spell; MOE, MOE, KYUN, KYUN! (You'll have to find a video of Miku's spell time to get that.) I flew from the east coast of the US for ONE NIGHT just to see Band-Maid play for one night in Los Angeles in 2018. I have never, ever done that for any band. That's how much this band has grabbed a hold of me. Then for their 2019 US Tour they were playing 5 dates in 3 cities (initially, they added a late 5th show after I booked airfare). For 2019 I followed the band from NYC, to Dallas, to Los Angeles. I saw all but one of their shows in the US for that 2019 tour. It was worth every single penny. The Band-Maid community is awesome, so many cool and diverse people just sharing a love of great music! Who knows, maybe we'll meet at a Band-Maid show one day? LOL. Keep up the great work!

I found "Thrill" first too and I don't remember how, I was just looking for something new, but I watched about 50 of their videos that first night. I too fell in love with Miku first, she set the hook, but Akane beating the heck out of the drums with that huge, gorgeous smile, just reeled me in for good, wow! It was a month or two before their last L.A. show, but I didn't hear about it until too late and I could kick myself for not finding them a couple months earlier. I love all of them now and all for different reasons, they are all so amazing in their own ways and when they get together, BOOM! BAND-MAID just KICKS @SS!

A Japanese maid-themed band with women only in their 20s is the best rock band in the world today, and I absolutely love it. They already have made an amazing legacy. If they were to stop right now, you could look at their body of work and just say "damn that's amazing." People will be listening to it years from now. But given their youth, dedication to each other, their craft, and the band, they could easily have decades to make wonderful music that just keeps getting better.

In a few years time, we'll look back at these ladies, and be ranking them among the greatest *influencers* in rock music. - not the most popular or comercially sucessful, maybe...... but certainly putting a huge marker down for bands to follow. - Like the Beatles, the Ramones, Nirvana, U2, Queen, the Who, Led Zep, and many more.....

I was watching some Baby Metal videos over the course of a month a two about this time last year and although I liked most of the more popular ones a lot as I explored more the songs just resonated less and less with me. I've never been a metal music lover so it might be just that. Band Maid thumbnails were quite frequent on the side so I decided to click on "Thrill" one day. Best decision ever, I enjoyed it enough to where I would try "Dice" MV next. The intro to that song made me pause, remove my headphones and take breather. I realized I had a favorite band, one that plays MY type of music. Listen to them and reactions to them on a daily basis to reduce stress and just make me smile. I hadn't bought any type of musical media or merch in probably two decades. I have every album, 3 T-shirts and even a mask I wear to work to help spread the word. I have vacation time at the ready whenever concerts begin again and I WILL see them live!
@fastskipper7773 жыл бұрын
"Warning" is the first song on their brand new album and the music box jingle is their typical signature music that they play as an intro openings of their live shows. They always use that type of music when starting their concerts.

To their fans, Band-Maid is the best hard rock band in the world! The rest just haven't heard of them yet. In seven years, I have only found a couple of people (reactors) who don't think Band-Maid is anything but unbelievable. I can't recall exactly, but I believe I found Band-Maid from watching a reactor I like check them out. From there I searched around and found more of it, and got myself hooked. I've been listening to them a little over a year. Unfortunately, some of those live performances you could find on KZbin are no longer around (got removed for being from one of their live concert DVDs). But now they're putting more and more stuff up on their official channel, so everyone can still have a ton of good music to listen to. I think these ladies show intense love of their music and dedication to each other and to their fans. They've stated several times that the lock downs over the last year are difficult for them because they love performing for the fans so much. And the fans love to hear them. It feels like they're not some 'holier-than-thou' rock stars with massive egos. They know without the fans they wouldn't be where they are, and the fans know they are some of the greatest musicians out there.

I love the way thus video was shot. Blending 1970's style car chase, with the apocalyptic Mad Max visuals! Blends nicely with the defiant nature of the lyrics as to how they won't be pushed into a box. How they're going to do what they want and we can either come along for the ride or be left behind. It would take too long to tell the full story of how I found them. I couldn't pick a favorite song of theirs. Mostly due to their constantly upping the ante, and crushing it. I have favorite moments for each member within songs, and some songs are stronger than others (like with any band), but even their "weaker" songs are very well written and masterfully performed.

I first discovered Band-Maid about 7 months ago, shortly after discovering Babymetal. I forget what it was exactly that lead to me checking out Babymetal but, I did it. And I didn't make it too far down the fox hole before I encountered a flock of pigeons (read: Band-Maid fans). (The two fan groups overlap quite a bit, you see, and are awesome about piggybacking on each other.) I was keen to learn more about other awesome Japanese groups so I was like why not? I watched the Domination MV, was floored, watched Thrill MV, was floored AGAIN, watched Domination live... and then I was absolutely hooked. Babymetal turned out to be a fling (don't worry, we still text) but Band-Maid is love for life. Btw, you are way overdue for watching a live performance. You think you love them now? Watch Domination (live) or Wonderland (live) and you won't be able to believe what you're feeling.

Subscribed now - enjoy your reactions to BAND-MAID. Discovered them on here last March while watching BabyMetal videos. Watched Domination (live) and was blown away. Bought the albums on iTunes that night. Then a week later decided I needed actual copies of the albums (and singles - except the first one which is very expensive now) and bought the lot. Got the live DVD and a ton of merchandise since (more on the way soon) and have been trying to convince the world to listen to this band ever since. Not a day has gone by since then that I haven't listened to them, or watched a reaction video (now part of my daily routine to see what 'new' folk think of them). No band has ever grabbed my attention and held it to the same extent they have in all the time I've been listening to music (including Radiohead or Pearl Jam - 2 previous big favourites) and they made 2020/21 bearable.

I just finished listening to the full album a little before this (my physical copy arrived from Japan this afternoon), and it's all just excellent. I'm not a musician or anything, but I've been a music fan my whole life (big thing in our house growing up) and I'm 47 now. I simply can't get over how incredibly talented these five women are. A band this good is just lightning in a bottle. I first came across them in the same way I've seen many others mention: youtube recommendation. I dismissed them at first, just "cute, but I'm not into J-pop", but the recommendation kept popping up so finally I said to myself, "Oh, alright, damn it! Fine!" and clicked. My socks? Blown right the eff off. That was just about a year ago, sometime in late January 2020. Picking a favourite song is a tough one. I think it's basically whichever I listened to last with BAND-MAID. Emotionally, though, I have to say Freedom (especially the live version from Feb 14, 2020) stands out. It's pretty simple and straight forward, but man, it makes me happy!

4:05 And Saiki has a sympathetic laugh. She can really laugh out loud with her whole body. Then she sounds like a super villain in a James Bond movie. Great! She also doesn't raise her pitch when she is speaking normally like other Japanese women do because they think it makes them cute. The other band members describe her as "tsundere" (because that she wears all black on stage and has a blue flower in her hair) . Some fans call her "Ice-Queen" " Tsundere: A Japanese term for a character development process that depicts a character with a personality who is initially polarized warm/soft, cold, temperamental, hotheaded (and sometimes even hostile) before gradually showing a warmer, friendlier side over time." I learned about BAND-MAID on KZbin recommendations around 2 years ago. Japan have so many amazing female singers on the rock/metal scene. There are some really worth to listen to. - Fuki is a legend in the japanese metal scene. You can listen to her in Unlucky Morpheus (I recommend their official live video for "Knight of Sword) or Doll$boxx (try the MV for "Shout Down"). - Ikkyu Nakajima from tricot (try the song "右脳左脳") have a great voice, I love listening to her. - Azul/Regan. She have a different stage name for each band. Azul for Zettai Club that sadly disbanded some months ago (try the song "夢幻大スリラー") and Regan for SAISEIGA, her new band (listen to "GO ON!"). - Mayu. She was the vocalist from Lipstick but now is singing for NEMOPHILA. They're pretty new but great (watch their MV for "Raitei"). I would like to mention some others, like Yui Itsuki from Yousei Teikoku, Eye from Mary's Blood, Asami from LOVEBITES and many others. But this is a good start - if you're interested, of course.

I found bandmaid while just scrolling twitter one day. It was a "retweet your favorite band" account that posted snippets of music videos from certain bands and a lot of them were very recognizable, early 2000s rock bands, stuff like sum41 and simple plan and papa roach, but there was a tweet for real existence by bandmaid. I was confused because i recognized every other band and figured bandmaid must also be popular and ive just never heard of them, so i watched the video and was immediately in love. The only japanese music i really knew at the time was babymetal who i was into much more for the instrumentals than the singing, but bandmaid took it to a new level with amazing instrumentals and a good mix of english in their songs. It led me down a very, very deep rabbit hole and now theyre just by far my favorite band

Love your Band Maid reactions and have subscribed. You asked about becoming a fan. Almost seven years ago, I was a big fan of another all female hard rock/metal band from Sweden: "Crucified Barbara" (they've since disbanded). I was watching their videos when Band Maid's debut music video, "Thrill", popped up in my feed. I saw the thumbnail of these little Japanese girls dressed in maid outfits and thought: "What the hell?" I clicked on the video, and that changed to: "Hell yeah!" I've been a fan ever since. Speaking of which, I'd recommend reacting to "Thrill" if you'd like to see where it all began. But whichever you choose to react to next, I look forward to it! Le Gra!

If you are pronouncing it as a two syllable word, it's incorrect. There is never more than one vowel per syllable in Japanese. Saiki is three syllables... Sa-i-ki. Native Japanese speakers and fluent speakers talk fast, which makes words sound like syllables are run together and sometimes like vowels aren't being pronounced.

I honestly don't even know what song was the first song I heard but my favorite short journey I recommend to people just getting into Band Maid is to watch their Thrill MV, this was their "break out" song BUT it was early on when they formed and was written for them, THEN watch the Alone MV, this was the first song their label let them do that they wrote and arranged themselves. Just the energy difference between the two is STARK and shows the true beginning of the artistry unleashed. Favorite song? Yolo :D

I'm into Japanese stuff (learning Japanese currently). I found this group called "Stereopony" that I really liked (they got me hooked to rock), only to find out shortly afterwards that they got disbanded back in 2012. So, Band-Maid was just be desperately trying to find anything similar to quench my rock addiction... Naturally, I got hooked to them as well (even more than Stereopony) and they are now my go to rock band that I always keep coming back to if I feel like listening to good rock (I do follow other rock bands as well but, in the end, I always end up back here). Also, you can try looking into "vocaloids" if you feel like looking into more Japanese music...

First song of theirs I heard was Alone. I’ve been hooked since. I definitely recommend watching that music video.

This is another masterpiece from Band Maid! I found them about a year and a half ago watching music videos and happened across Baby Metal. As I watched that mv, on the side suggestions I saw Band Maid, Thrill, and was hooked right away. I now have 5 cd's and two live concert DVD's and don't go a day without listening to them. Oh yes, I also have every KZbin video I could get from Band Maid! These ladies are a breath into a genre that was falling by the wayside, Hard Rock! I have been listening to rock music, mostly but not all, and I think Band Maid rates as one of the best ever, not just the best now, male or female! Glad I found them and am enjoying your journey down the Pigeon Hole, Po!

I was watching reaction videos, mostly to Nightwish (who were also new to me when I started--and who I have NOT completely abandoned). About a month ago, my two favorite reactors suddenly started having a bunch of Band-Maid show up in their channels streams. I tried to resist--not forever, but just as a delay. I only lasted so long.... I think the first I watched was the MV for Dice, then Manners (or maybe the other way around), then live Freedom and Domination (don't remember which was first). Totally hooked by then. I'd really like to see a live version of Thrill--even though they didn't write it, it's just so CATCHY. I'm slowly working my way through the available-on-video catalog, while also eagerly seeking out first-time-hearing-them reactions (even if I know the song), A day without Band-Maid isn't worth getting up for.

On live performances they have an instrumental that plays while they take the stage and this first track intro on the new Album seems like a nod to that.

You convinced me. I’ve subscribed this channel. I kinda relate you since a daughter of mine now lives in Dublin. Anyways, Band-Maid’s another live streaming is coming up on Thursday Feb. 11 starting at 5:00pm JPT. Tickets will be on sale from 12:00 on Saturday, Jan. 23 JPT via ZAIKO (zaiko.io). The cost is 3,500 Yen. But I have to tell you this. In this live streaming, they’re going to play approx. 20 songs you have probably not listened to. Then “first time listen reaction” will be…

You're pronouncing her name correctly yep! Saiki's name is phonetically pronounced "sigh-ki". She's a serious singer to watch. When they first appeared her voice was very competent but a little under challenged. Her skill and craft since then has come on in leaps and bounds. If you like this, the album will take your head off. I just got it today and it's up there with the best stuff they've ever done, which for a band that can't do anything wrong is an achievement. I discovered Band Maid whilst looking for new Japanese material, being as in love with their culture as I am. The first music I got into from Japan were the compositions of Yoko Kanno, a wonderful artist who I came across through my love of anime - I noticed she was involved in a lot of stuff that I really loved - Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex and Cowboy Bebop (both series also involving another artist, an incredible Italian singer Ilaria Graziano), and between them and composer Kenji Kawai (who composed for the anime film versions of Ghost in the Shell and the all time classic horror film "The Ring") they got me into the Japanese music scene. From there I discovered j-rock girls "Scandal" and it was the search for more that brought me to Band Maid and another band which I recommend you check out if you haven't - Lovebites. Japan truly has the rock scene cornered as far as I'm concerned, and I know I'm, not alone in that assessment.

Saiki = Sigh - Key You picked four of the most diverse songs in the catalog. That was a nice mix there. This is the album opener and it just gut punches you. As for that intro, they have music like that as there stage entrance music. I fully expect this to be the first song in their set for a bit. At the very least an extended version of the opening part of this song. I found them very early on as far as KZbin is concerned. Early 2016 when Thrill started to gain traction but it was their third video "the non-fiction days" that made me a fan and they have become my favorite band in the world (and I've been listening to rock/metal since the 80s).

I found out about Band-Maid after discovering Babymetal (which you should totally react to Babymetal Catch Me If You Can live from Budakon) which led me down the J-Rock rabbit, fox, and pigeon hole. There are so many great J-Rock bands. All unique and wonderful in their own way, but I have to say that Band-Maid is the best in Japan and also the world.

I'm going to recommend these songs, for a great mix of Saiki's vocals and great instrumentals. From their KZbin page: Domination live February 2020 Bubble MV (very under recognized by reaction channels) Choose me (my favorite feel good song) Wonderland (softer side and a Saiki showcase.) Real Existence live 2018 (just because it totally rocks) Honestly you can't go wrong with these ladies so you can also just close your eyes and pick one.

I discovered BAND-MAID in July of 2019 while having drinks at a tap - house in Bangkok after a Blackpink concert. Their Dice M/V came on while the live band took a break. I looked into them back at the hotel and haven't looked back since.

Exactly - people see things like "Yoroshiku onegai shimasu" written down, and then realise that half the vowels aren't even pronounced when you say it :-)
@robertlawrence26093 жыл бұрын
The vowels are pronounced, they're just spoken so fast that the untrained ear doesn't hear them. Like how Saiki's name sounds like it's two syllables, until you realize that in Japanese there is never more than one vowel per syllable, so it's actually three, just as mentioned above.

Think its easier to say that its like the English word psyche, same way pronounced.

She gets it! My journey- I skipped over reactions to the for months. One day someone I follow had a reaction to either Blooming or Dice. I watched both and over the next few days I just kept sinking further into it. I literally listen to them every day and it's been well over a year now. Everything they do to keep in contact with fans let alone their skill from top to bottom... 🙌💕. If you want other videos and can't find them on KZbin, try bilibili.com. It's like an Asian KZbin. In general their live stuff is miles better. Also if you are interested, myself and @bandmaidnation are making a fan compilation video for Band-Maid as a thank you for everything they do especially in light of all their shows being canceled. All the details are on Instagram @bandmaidnation. Deadline is in a couple days but may get pushed further.

If I may suggest one song that is my favo, it's Gion-cho, though the group singing it is Band-Maiko. It is basically their alter ego band. Think they did it as a joke (not sure on that one tho) but it's them dressed as Maiko's (Geisha trainees). Best part of that song is that the lyrics are underneath (sub has to be on) in Romaji. And while listening to Saiki's clear singing, you basically get to learn to sing along with the song. Which is the fun part for us non Japanese speaking fans. I am now so far as to be able to sing most of the song myself in Japanese. So try that one, also it's different music from what you heard so far. So explore and enjoy :) Btw, us fans got to stick together, so I subscribed :)

Hahaha! I love Band-Maid, too. 'Thrill' is the song (from an older album) and video that hooked me. If you want to do something fun and different, check out the Band-Maiko videos - a Band-Maid April Fool's joke that kinda became a real thing. I would suggest 'secret MAIKO lips'.
