Still, I think the design is very reminiscent of Dark Troopers, similarly to the training droids seen in Rebels. Little is known about the Dark Troopers in canon other than what The Mandalorian established so the creatives might draw inspiration from Legends to fill in the blanks as they see fit.

Technically, they are Dark Troopers in a way. From what I can tell from their appearance and affiliation, they are prototypes for the Imperial Sentry Droid, which themselves were inspired by Dark Troopers.

based on the music alone we can probably say that these are prototypes at best. When a known character or type is on screen or introduced in an episode we normally get the theme of that one mixed in at least a little bit though normally with bad type characters, at least until we know for sure what they are or they become grunts. its also possible that to keep us guessing they just didn't use it

In retrospect, Tarkin might have been able to make them loyal assets if he had waited even a few days and let the shock of the republic became the empire wear off rather than sending them straight out at human targets they were not accustomed to fighting, had they seen what Saw's partisan's started to do later then pretty sure they would have gone after his people just as hard as they did droids during the clone wars.

Personally I don’t think those are dark troopers, they look more like some sort of precursor to the DT-sentry droids that appeared in rebels, which the empire could’ve possibly taken inspiration from the kaminoans. The reason I don’t think these droids are dark troopers is because it’s a kaminoan facility and dark trooper variations and phases were held somewhat a secret among the imperials. Secondly, the fact that these droids are automated would mean that the only possible dark trooper variant would be phase 3, because the first two phases have an organic user. The only logical assumption is that these machines are a variation and mix of phase 2 and phase 3 dark troopers, in essence a 2.5 model.

Except Astartes have superhuman speed and reflexes that even Jedi won't match, can rip both Wrecker and Dark Trooper droids to pieces with bare hands and have both genius level intelligence and a century of experience. Not to mention better equipment. You CAN create Astartes analogues in Star Wars based on Republic Commandos, Bad Batch, Dark Trooper/Zero G exosuits and Vader's bionics, BUT Empire had cancelled all those projects before they even matured, not to mention going as far as combining their results. Another one of Palpatines "achievement" that would have given him unmatched force superiority, but was lost to incompetence of his own and his chosen subordinates.

They're agile, can somewhat defy gravity in their long jumps and have Force act as reflex boost with limited precognition. Problem is, even with dubiously canonical "Force speed" that was only in Phantom Menace as an explanation for editing error and in games after it, Astartes actually are VERY fast and have enough experience to not get caught up idle or get shocked easily. Think of it as akin to fighting Gundyr/Gael or any other fast boss in DSouls. You can somewhat outmaneuver them, but never outpace.

According to Star Wars lore… Dark Troopers, or the Dark Trooper Project, wasn’t created until later in the days of the Galactic Empire and were first created as a result to replace the limbs of nearly dead troopers. Sadly, most went mentally insane and ended up killing themselves! Later full robotic models were built, Phase 0 were mostly prototypes and phase 1 was the complete model of the phase 0, if I’m correct. Phase 2 and Phase 3 were later models for harder combat. Phase 3 was later formed into a suit and be operated by a human or just operate on its own like a regular droid. Sadly they were expensive to make and the production had come to halt. But as we later see in the Mandalorian, Moff Gideon attempted to remake the dark troopers in order to give more “power” to the Empire. Of course these models in the Mandalorian were more of a mixture/combination of Phase 2 and somewhat Phase 3. NOTE: I could be wrong on some of this lore and please ignore my name lol.

No, Phase 3 is the only one to be a droid. Phase 2 models look exactly like Force Unleashed purge troopers, and are suits
