Clonezilla USB drive creation guide - Easiest Method!

Thank you. I normally use Samsung Migration program (all Samsung drives) but it appears to have a problem possibly with my hardware (latest system is all server grade not consumer grade). It sees all the drives but is unable to do a clone. Long ago I used the Windows version and Symantec Ghost (back when Peter Norton was still doing the code). Symantec Ghost no longer exists. I was disappointed with the clone it made (the changes you described) when I tried booting from it to verify a good clone. So this is first time using Clonezilla. I especially like the fact that you discussed Disk Manager. While I am very familiar with the Windows Management software, most are not. This was a very good addition and had I created a video, I would never have thought of including it. Bravo.

I'd like to say that this worked like a charm in swapping ssd's in my 2020 Razer Blade 15 Base Model with two SSD slots. I cloned a new, larger, ssd with the original, then swapped them and added a second larger ssd for more storage. Followed your instructions and had no issues. Thank you for the info!

Thank You for making this guide. My old laptop connected to the Internet was my only source of info while being in lockdown. I baby 'd this machine to keep it running to order delivery's. I began watching tutorials on how to back up the HD for a reinstall after a disaster and I found out about Clonezilla. Everything I tried never worked until I watched this tutorial. What is shown in this video worked perfectly. I am not much of a geek but I did everything shown in this video and had successfully created a 600 G image file on a new external hard drive. I am now going through your other vids to learn how to re load the image after taking laptop in for repairs.Thanks again.

Download the proper Clonezille zip file. Extract it on to the root directory of a USB drive. Done, you now have Clonezilla on a bootable USB drive.

Interesting: ISO files recommended for use in this vid, but current instructions I'm following from CloneZilla recommend Zip file for USB, and ISO for DVD. Quote from web site: "ISO file is for CD/DVD. "Zip file is for USB flash drive or USB hard drive"

Strange as at may sound, I tried to create the drive, dragging the iso worked, selected the USB target (8G), hit Flash and it tells me "Something went wrong. If it is a compressed image, please check that the archive is not corrupted. User did not grant permission." I ran Etcher as admin with the same results. I re-downloaded the iso. What am I missing (besides a few bricks 😉)?

@@ThePhilster001 i just found out you can literally extract the zip version of clonezilla onto your usb drive and it should work as a bootable drive. Wish they would advertise this more as its the easiest way to create it.

Hey there HTA , I'm so glad I stumbled upon you and your video tutorials while searching for a solution to my problem! Unfortunately I've Learned so many things the "HARD WAY!" I just recently threw away a 1000 GB Hard drive which was given to me free. BY A FRIEND WHO because we neither one could figure out How to write to it..and / or wipe it ! So the problem I am having right now is the problem of Converting a Hard drive from MBR BIOS to the newer Boot to GPT table. I used a DVD with a clonezilla ISO on it, with complete ultimate cloning success. I wonder if I could just transfer that ISO from the DVD to a USB flash? Would that work (if I could do that)?

How may I clone a hard drive which will not boot into windows 10 and has data that I want to keep. All windows 10 restore and recovery options do not work, I have no recovery CD, since it was upgraded to Windows 10 and does not offer this option on Gateway Desktop. Last option I am thinking of is to clone the drive to an identical drive and if that does not help, last option to completely format the hard drive and reinstall OS, but I do not want to loose data.

If you are referring to using Balena Etcher, then yes, it is very easy. The Clonezilla official documentation has now listed this as an official method for MacOS.

Thank you for the help, I’m struggling to image a new m.2 drive on my thinkstation p520 for enterprise, trying different things to get the right recipe. I have tried it now three times and all three times the OS seems to fail to mount. Though, no faults are thrown during the process.

Macrium Reflect Free should be able to do this, see my video on that. Clonezilla with theoretically do it if you know exactly what you are doing, but other options are much easier.

Do people still have CD drives? OK, I do too, but I only use them to rip old music CDs and watch movies. I think the information is a bit out of date for modern computer systems. This may be because a lot of users in the Taiwan region (where Clonezilla is created and maintained) may still be using older computers and operating systems. Also, my method depends on using a third party application that the Clonezilla team seems to not support. Using the ISO as I have shown is simpler for modern comptuers and operating systems and works great.

So, the software told me 256 gig was to big. I found an antique 2 gig drive and tried again. It worked!!!

Glad you found a solution. Old drives sometimes come in handy. I used a 16 GB USB drive. Clonezilla is SMALL, so it would probably work with a 1 GB drive. Check the Clonezilla website for details.

Thanks for the video. But major down votes for Clonezilla for being unnecessarily obtuse and counter-intuitive. Why go to the trouble of making free, cool software and then making it hard for most people to figure out how to use?
