Cloning a E38 with the OBDSTAR DC706

Congrats on the new toy! The 706 has been a hit and miss for me but a hit more of the time... It failed to read MB shifter module that it said it could, and even bigger goof was the sim2k 250 it said it could read but wouldn't even connect. Support has been non existing (from OBDStar) and so I had to send out the sim2k to Ira and he got it cloned for me. But it saved my behind when the Autel bricked 2 MB MED17.7.2 and it cloned the 3rd donor flawlessly. It's a good addition for me. Funny story though, I inquired about the 706 with my Worldpac rep and he said they could get it and they ended up sourcing it through Isaac too lol. Thanks for the demo, wasn't aware you could share the screen with the unit.

You don’t have to go into the hex editor first and load the file. When you go to Write EEPROM select load external data then pick your eeprom file from storage that you want to flash. Load external data just lets you select a file from all of your saved files.

I have the P004 module that came in the OBDstar P50 airbag reset tool kit so I just use that with it most of the time.

This has been a great tool for me. I picked it up because I had a used ZF8HP transmission in a 19 Ram I had to clone but I’ve used it on multiple ECM, TCM, and BCM’s since. Hasn’t failed me yet. Hate to say it because the IOTerminal has been great for me but this tool has pretty much made it redundant at least in my case anyways.

Hello. Love your videos. Clear and concise. Very fundamental question, I'm sure...what resources are there to identify a particular ECU (i.e. the one in this video is an E38, how did you determine that, other than "experience"?)

load external data will let you choose the file. Load from hex editor will do the one you have loaded into the hex editor/ or last one read as you said. Curious about the write partial flash box though. Keep up the great vids.

Sounds more like he has a chaffed wire shorting to ground and pulling it down.. But I guess he'll figure that out when this new ECU doesn't fix it. :) (if)
