Consoletrainer - Cat West , I think a tutorial on how to set up/connect a second MAConsole to be used as backup if main console failed during show operation would be a very useful one. How to set up multiple consoles with restrictions to program on same show file could be another good one. Cheers! :)

These videos are what the ACT training courses wish they could be. Actually giving real world examples and big pictures approaches to problems. I used cloning for the first time last week and my boss is ecstatic with the amount of time I can save while preserving the same (if not higher) quality of show.

How do you set up a fixture sheet to only display fixture types??
@sambalarezo68242 жыл бұрын
Hey Cat, great video but just wondering exactly what you mean when you say “clone fixture type to fixture type” and “cloning fixture to fixture” what is the difference between the two? Thanks
@teatrolites34463 жыл бұрын
So I’m like super new to ma programming and cloning as a concept, so just to clarify, how that macro works, you group all of the fixtures in the clone from and clone to groups, then clone each preset pool, sequence, and effect? And do you use the macro for each fixture type or group of fixture separately? Thanks!!!!
@consoletrainer3 жыл бұрын
Basically, the macro will clone all the presets, effects and sequences at the same time for you based on whatever fixtures are in the "From" and "To" Groups. I don't recommend putting your entire "from" rig into the "from" group and the entire "to" rig into the "to" group all at once because if you put even one unit out of order, or leave one out... it can mess up a lot of stuff. I like to clone the rig in chunks... for example, I do all the front light first, then maybe all the spots, then the washes, floor lights....etc.

Once again, great video! Just wondering a thing.. Why we should keep our Global preset Global after cloning? Thanks!
@consoletrainer4 жыл бұрын
That's a great question! Its really personal preference. You absolutely don't "have" to. If you skip this step, the fixture to fixture clone will give turn those presets into Selective (for the new units) and stay Global for the old. They'll work and they'll work in your cues. It's kind of an organizational thing - for some showfiles in some situations, you want to keep things global, but if you're cloning to something that you're only going to be using once on a one-off, then it sure doesn't have to be the cleanest thing ever. :) Also, I know some people have been frustrated with their presets turning selective, so I wanted to make sure I explained how to keep them global in the video. There's a lot of ways to do this- and I love knowing all the options, so I wanted to share. I hope this helps!

Is there a way to filter the type of preset cloned through command line?
@User-cl8mn2 жыл бұрын
Do you think utilizing worlds on smaller rigs or even permanent installs is beneficial? I can see it on large shows or tours that are always moving but just trying to figure out the benefits of smaller/mid rigs or install rigs.

So in my show I have my songs final looks saved to individual executors for playback, and I want show A (which is written and finished) to carry over everything to show B (which is significantly bigger). Will the stored information in those executors be able to transfer over like the presets? I do have each song's effects for each fixture saved and labeled. Just trying to wrap my head around cloning ad I've never done it before and have 5 different festival shows with the same artist in the next two weeks and trying get this to work
@consoletrainer3 жыл бұрын
If you clone from the fixtures programmed in show A to the fixtures programmed in Show B (and follow the instructions I show in the video), it will clone all of your presets, cues in sequences, and effects. Show A fixtures will still retain all of their original programming, it just also gets copied the fixtures in Show B. If you have cues/sequences on your executors: those are included in the clone. If you have Group Masters on your executors, then you need to either clone groups as well (I don't usually do that), or just updated your group master (which is what I do). If you have macros on your executors: those remain untouched. If you have speed faders on your executors that change the speed of effects- they will also work with the ShowB fixtures, because you cloned the effects. Cloning the first time can be confusing. I recommend making a copy of your SHOW A and then giving it a try. If you're not happy with the results, it's ok because you can also go back to your original showfile. I'd also recommend getting in touch with MA tech support in your country (it's ACT Lighting in North America), in case you need to get someone on the phone to ask questions. I think you'll be happy with it. Cloning is ideal for moving an existing rig to festival rigs.

@@ryanpervola163 Yeah, that's what usually happens. It can be a lot of work, but I find that it's actually a lot of fun figuring out how to translate one rig to a completely new rig.

Hi Amit! Thanks for the comment.... could you be a little more specific? There's a lot to MA onPC (also don't know if you're using MA3 or MA2 onPC). Are you looking for a "how to get started" type of thing?

Hi, havent got into this question alot before asking but, lets say that i have cloned my Tour Spots to the Festival Spots. That works great for the almost all of my cues but i have one specific cue where i would like to "switch" so that the Festival Beams are doing the stuff that the Festival Spots would have been doing. Do you know a way to do it that is not just redoing the cue? Thanks!
@consoletrainer4 жыл бұрын
You can clone an individual cue or individual sequence after you've done the main clone. Amend the clone macro (or command line syntax) to only clone one sequence or a range of cues. Then, after you've cloned to the beams, you will want to remove the spots from the cues/sequence.

So what is actually stored in the "clone from" and "clone to" groups?
@consoletrainer3 жыл бұрын
"Clone from" is your source fixtures and "clone to" is your destination fixtures that you're cloning to. Before you run the macro - make sure that you have the right fixtures in each group! Selection order is everything. Check out the video starting at 9:29
