Interesting too. On the original US version, the way the officials were set the game judge (assistant) would start the players on the climber and the referee was on top of the Travellator, counting full attempts. If there was a close call, the game judge went to the finish line to determine the winner. There was a close one in the final US season with soldiers that had a similar ending but they got it in two. Mike Adamle was quiet and watched from his box near the finish line when calling the finish.

@therebel4332
@therebel4332 3 жыл бұрын
@@Mitjitsu I don't doubt that. though Colm always did struggle up the travelator though, he failed to get up first time in any of his rounds. as for the original comment the UK became very poor towards the end, it struggled to find any real athletic competitors after 96 in my opinion. Before we have Field, Norman, Everitt and Mottram on the male side as champions, Allen, Eunice and had good competition in Damm and Andreya in the womens,, who were all electric on the eliminator and scored heavily in the games as well.. but by the end there wasn't really any competition, lots of injuries to poor athletes, Piers was a good winner in 97 but beat very little lets be honest, if he'd been in the 96 or 95 series he'd have not won esp on the 96 eliminator course. 98 was just the year where it was a case of yeah lets bin it,, Dave to be fair was an able competitor in some of the games but he should have never been winning the eliminator 4 times in a row ffs, he was clumsy and quite slow I thought, no competition to beat him at all. You got the feeling by that point they were just putting contenders through that failed miserably to qualify in the previous seasons ie Mark this series, his brother entered the previous year, both dreadful and wouldn't have qualified at its height. The games had to be made easier because the glads were just so far ahead by now (98), they had to have more none contact games, more silly gimmicky games.

They did slow the travelator when they realized neither of them had the legs for it
@therebel4332
@therebel4332 3 жыл бұрын
@@acesfn7316 This was my point in a comment further down though. In previous seasons (96 and before) all the competitors on the mens side never had any issue getting up the travelator, yes some failed first time because they were chasing and were going on flat footed trying to sling themselves at it so as to catch the other, but always walked up it when composed,, and it was always going fast like in this video. It just seemed in this series a lot of the blokes put through had failed in previous seasons, weren't good enough or just not conditioned for the events and the eliminator hence a lot of failing to get up the travelator first time sometimes when under no pressure at all ie Colm in this round. If you stuck any of the men in this series up against a Paul Reynolds, prime Phil Norman, Prime Phil Field, Mark Everitt, 2 scoops, Andrew (Aussie) etc etc they've have been 20 seconds behind on that eliminator and finishing 40 seconds back (The original eliminator course).. I now know why they binned the series off after 98. Because it was getting obvious by that point there were no decent strong competition coming through at all, they were having to red tape some of the events because of "health and safety", a lot of the games in 97-98 were fooking childish lets be honest,, the see you later aligator game was just... like what category did it go under? there was nothing dangerous about it, there was no balance needed because of the harness, it was just stupid to all pretence and purposes. People said it was because of the injury's sustained in 97 as the reason why they started to bring in less contact games... b0llocks,, those competitors with the glass bodies should have been binned before selection, if they ain't conditioned then they should be crossed off...1 or 2 injuries for awkward falls fine, but far to many were pulling out for fook all in the end, 2 women pulled out in 97 because of a bad shoulder ffs...
@WhiteHatBobby
@WhiteHatBobby 11 ай бұрын
In the US version, there was a limit on running the Travellator. It was three from S2 to S4, and from S5 to the final series (S7), it was two after it moved to the end of the course. The referee put the limit for player safety. After two failures (Larry could catch if you were going all out each attempt, and if you were not he would not count it), players could run on the side but it was still steep.

Absolutely. Colm making a semifinal in this was a fooking joke really. Dave won the series and was a fooking fast food servant boy ffs.
