This happened to me once. It was actually the first time I ever saw a moose, I didn't realize how big they are. Came around a bend and there she was. I continued on my way when the moose decided I could pass. Very cool experience.

No Tony that's not my car. Just a person that posted there close meeting with a moose up here in Maine. If you spend enough time up north exploring you will meet up with one sooner or later. They are beautiful. But,can be very dangerous if you spook or provoke one.

I've had one close encounter with a family,mom,dad,baby.walked about 10' in front of me while I was walking on a logging road. Very intimidating. I was a little nervous at that moment. Then have had a few not so close.

Early Spring..y/n? Their antlers haven't begun to grow yet(think it looks like a young bull = looked like foundation of antlers)... They're not aggressive if they don't feel threatened = if people(in vehicles) don't approach like they're charging. At night they get blinded by headlights....so if ever they're facing you...dim your lights, slow down and either stop or pass at as far a distance from them as you can.

I think this is a Cow Moose because if it was a Bull, there would be too distinct circles where the antlers would be. Moose have very poor eyesight. Typically Moose aren't aggressive animals. I would never try to pass a Moose even if it was at a distance though. They are wild and unpredictable and you just never know what they will do. I would just stop and wait. They will move along in a couple minutes if it even takes that long. As an avid Fisherman, I run into them from time to time and I'm on foot in their world. I make lots of noise and make sure they have at least one way out. Most times they will just casually walk away.

The less challenging/threatening you & your vehicle want to seem to them....the safer everyone will be. All the idiots who get into crashes with them...have usually driven right up towards them, like they drive in city traffic.

Not always. I know of a guy who was driving along one night and the Moose ran into the side of the vehicle. He never saw it in the ditch standing there even with lights on obviously. They believed that once the light had passed the animal it thought it was safe to cross. It ran into the side of the vehicle.

Females no antlers... Males antlers that they grow new each year starting in the spring and by fall they have their HUGE antlers (Bigger with age),They joust and use them in proving who is more dominant to impress females... Once the rut (Mating Season) has ended and harsh winter hits they fall off (thought to preserve heat etc) and it starts all over the next spring. They are covered in skin with a fine fur (called velvet) that allows them to be on the short list of fastest growing animal tissue. The velvet falls away afte the antlers are full grown. It is used in Chinese Medicine as a natural growth hormone.... While impressive and of course could be quite dangerous if used agains any animal or person the real danger from Moose (besides car accidents) Is their powerful kinking and stomping, The hoof of a Moose is the size of a 1 to 2 liter soda bottle ! They can kick with all 4 legs in any direction (think karate kicks) ....

Where is the grizzley? Where is the Wolf?! Sure I think it is nice to see a moose. I would luv to see a moose. Rather a moose fighting or fleeing and watching a predator chase its prey and, Will only ensure as a whole the survival of the Moose.

all you have to do is exactly what this guy did, stay calm and let the cow pass you on its own terms. the cow is a majestic but incredibly stupid animal. just let it do its thing and its gonna be fine. but mostly, just lettem be in the wild doing their thing unless you are hunting them responsibly :)

So they are not aggressive or anything? I guess it's the height that scares me --they are pretty tall, large animals.
@az0970449
@az0970449 6 жыл бұрын
they can be aggressive amy you half to be very careful when you get close to them don't make any sudden moves ect and if they have a baby or 2 with them stay a lot farther away
@davidgrant2025
@davidgrant2025 5 жыл бұрын
Typically they are not aggressive. However, if they have a baby, stay away and if it is rutting season, be cautious of bulls as they tend to be more aggressive then. Use common sense and give them plenty of space and you'll be fine. They are tall and weight a lot but usually won't harm you. I run into them from time to time while walking to Fishing spots in the Maine Woods and usually they run away or will just walk away and move on.
@Dierwolf2000
@Dierwolf2000 11 жыл бұрын
you usually wanna let them be whenever possible. just sayin. amy r got it right, they can do incredible damage. if the taker of this video had not stayed calm and let the cow do her thing he could be dead right now.
@davidgrant2025
@davidgrant2025 5 жыл бұрын
The best thing to do is make lots of noise. If this guy had talked to this Moose even in a calm voice, she likely would have fled as it is not a natural sound to them and they are weary of humans. This Moose was likely either fed by humans which is wrong or the vehicle was not running and the Moose felt safe. They are very inquisitive animals
