Jean Michel doesn't need Jay-Z or anybody else to make him prominent or to "keep his name alive." He does this on his own, always has. Jean Michel is everything Jay-Z could never be...pure, original, and a true artist who is immortal in his own right.

That's what you said..but I learned about Basquiat through a documentary of a white man, the white people can talk about him and show his work, but Jay-Z can't? I'm confused art is something that you have to be into for the most part.. but you don't have to be into Art to Know Michael Angelo , Picasso, van Gogh, DaVinci.. I'm here wondering 🤔 it's because they're white men?

When you look at it, this crap they did is a hot mess: Using the artist's artwork as a prop for a stolen diamond from Africa, appropriating the artist's afro hairstyle but yet having your woman rock a European hairstyle, Stealing a dead artist's power and claiming it as his own, causing the unenlightened to be confused about this artist's artwork and the artist's condition while living. There should be a law against this...maybe there is. Jay-Z just filed a suit against photographer Jonathan Mannion over the same damned issue. Basquiat was highly ambitious. He wanted his work in the biggest museum and most prestigious galleries. He would actually be proud that Black B/Millionaires are showcasing his work because Basquiat always felt awkward in that white world alone. Keep in mind as Basquiat became famous he left a lot of his disgruntled high school friends behind. These are the same ones always giving interviews.

I laughed because I didn’t know they really believed that nonsense. It seems some of the children think that rappers in Miami or Chicago started it as a trend. Basquiat did not invent or own it. Rastafarians wear their hair this way for religious purposes. They believe our hair is sacred and powerful and we shouldn’t manipulate it. Quite often people wait until they are older to wear locs for various reasons. You come to understand and appreciate more about yourself and how you were created. When you are older and established in your career you don’t have to conform to European beauty standards. Older people don’t care what you kids think about their appearance or everything for that matter.

Some people have already brought up issues similar to what I'm going to say, but why is it that a person like Jaz Z, a black man with the the status and success that he has, gets criticized for bringing attention to another great artist of color, when meanwhile rappers like Kanye and Drake don't get any criticism for their use of artist who are white or non black? That's BS! Kanye has worked with non black contemporary artists alot over the years, but yet I've never heard anyone say anything wrong with that at all! There are enough black contemporary artists out here who are very good and have created a name for themselves in the art world, but I've never seen Kanye even mention any of them ever! Not only is Kanye's new album cover based off of art from a white female artist by the name of Louis Bourgeois, but his previous albums were also from non black artists who's names are George Condo, Takashi Murakami and he has also worked extensively with James Turrell, another white contemporary artist! I have never seen Kanye west show support for any other black contemporary artist! Drake's new album cover, also a white contemporary artist by the name of Damien Hirst! As a black artist and painter, this infuriates me!! Where's the criticism about this?!!
