I put a small eyelet on the back., like the small red one. The band goes through that eyelet.

Thank you so much for sharing the knob, via button, technique. I've been wondering for quite some time how to do it and thought I'd figure it out one day when I attempt to do one. It would have been nice, though, to see how you did the back of the book with the ribbon attachment. Can you possibly provide a tutorial on it?

I punched a hole in the back cover to line up with the knob on the front. Put an eyelet in the hole. Cut a piece of ribbon the length needed to fit around the knob and hold the book closed when the ribbon is folded in half. Tie a knot in the ribbon. Put the loop of the tied ribbon through the hole from the inside of the back cover, and then back around through your ribbon and pull it tight. The tied knot should be on the inside of your back book cover. This way you can always un-do it to make to make a new one, if your journal gets thicker and you need a longer closure.
