Hi Gem, This has been advocated by some people in Optometry. They use a weak minus for near, and stronger minus for distance. It is called, "bifocals for children." That was a real learning experience for me!

Nice change-up! I have also discovered much less (virtually no) computer work related eye stain moving back further. Lately I've been around 2 meters on a larger monitor with diffs that are norms +0.50 sphere. Further is better! Thanks as always for your motivational vids - cheers!

Hi, Gemily! Just came here to drop a friendly comment and say that your videos rock and you inspire me a ton. I’ve been following EM for about 4 years now but am just beginning to take it seriously (first step was transitioning from wearing contacts full time to glasses). Just wanted to let you know how helpful and meaningful your videos are. You rock, enjoy your day!

Hi Gem, I know we disagree - that is normal in analyiltic science research. I use a plus lens , when at 20/50, to get completely rid of the effect of near work on my normal eyes. No lens for distance. Just a plus 1.5 Diopter, when reading 📚 at 20 inches. Gets completely rid of the effect of all close work!

I think I mentioned before that, after working 6 hours in the office, I would put on my normalised glasses and notice that everything in the distance would seem clearer than in the morning. I'm not 100% sure why, but my guess is that it may have something to do with my dimmer screen brightness (which I can't change) and the lighting in the room. All of it combined means that I'm sitting at the edge of blur for most of the working day. None of this was intentional by me; it just happened to be how the office had been set up. I was just lucky that such a setup worked for me. I even remember trying to find ways to turn up the brightness of my screen, but realised there was nothing I could do as it had been locked by the IT administrator. Unfortunately, I don't notice the same better distance vision on days I work from home, which sometimes makes me want to go into the office just to help my eyes 😁. Hope your close up changes work for you.

I am having the same experience - after working on my computer, clearing blur and doing AF, when I go outside everything is much clearer than if I went outside without having done this... Someone on the forujm who is keeping very detailed records of his son's progress said that he sees from his data that if your cm to blur measurement is higher at the end of the day than at the beginning, then you are on the right track. Here's hoping that this is having that effect!

Good point. I spoke about that with De Angelis and his opinion is that best adaptetion/improvement occurs when we have greater defocus (what you described). I agree with this theory. I often report this even in my past video/experience. The problem is consistency and sustainability of this kind of defocus. I hope your new approach will pay off. Ciao ciao

Sounds intriguing , I think I'd like to try it too but my blur horizon is at 97/98cm so I think it would be much harder for me to try it out. You're right about being unable to tell time when on a screen.I've been able to cut my screentime by a lot.Over the past 2 weeks my screentime on my computer is under 10 hours! I used to spend that amount of time in 1 day.Anyways, I am trying to make EM a lifestyle change for me but it can be hard when I have to work so much in close up.Great video,looking forward to the update.

Jack Steiner didn't discover by himsellf how to get rid of myopia . He literally took all the Idea from Todd Becker who do the same method but in close up vision. Todd Becker recommend to use + lense if you myopia is low . But he achieve 20/20 vision while print pushing in close up vision .

Jake doesn't claim to have discovered it. He read the science, he did the work, and now he helps others, and catalogues the collective experiences. He calls himself the librarian of this stuff. Although, no, he did not literally take all the idea from Todd Becker. Jake actually does not recommend the use of plus lenses except in very particular situations. Thanks for your comment.

@@GemilyMez Hi Gem, I like Todd also. For "light", myopia, (starting at 20/50, on Snellen) you can use a plus lens for all close work, and get to 20/30. Then you can ditch the minus, and continue to wear the plus during the school years. Keeping 20/40, and better for life. Yes, the discipline of doing it correctly - is intense.

Hi Gemily, great video, true that one does not realize how easily we get involved in work and do creep in. I kind of get confused as my understanding (from Jake's videos of course) is that distance vision improves distance vision while good close up habits is also necessary for optimum progress. Hours of positive stimulus from outdoor vision can get negated by bad close up habits. And in the long journey of EM, one of them (pushing or pulling) needs to be challenging whereas the other has to be bit relaxed in order not to strain eyes/visual cortex. Is my understanding correct, pls correct me. Cheers.
@GemilyMez
@GemilyMez 2 жыл бұрын
yes indeed, your understanding is correct. I just did not make a lot of progress in 2021, so this year I am trying a few different tweaks to work out what is stopping my progress. I have been focusing on having a challenge for distance vision since mid 2020, and so it probably is time for me to make sure I get some comfortable distance vision and come challenging close up vision for a change (and I am just making my close up blur a bit stronger than recommended for now). What you have said is spot on for Jake's recommendations. :)

I appreciate that you are trying to shake things up but I am a bit concerned you swung fully the other end of the extreme there... hope it works out but mind that strain, don’t hurt them delicate eyeballs. I do harder pulls like you are doing also but I tend to only do it for a few minutes a few times a week, it is rewarding and fun but very clearly strain inducing.

Agree :) It's fun to experiment, and can be beneficial, but just make sure to pay attention your eyes feedback.
@GemilyMez
@GemilyMez 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Reannon and David. Haha, I guess I am not someone who does things by halves. You may be pleased to hear that I have a stronger pair of differentials on the way (-1/-0/75) so I can maintain this nice distance but hopefully work in less blur (my -0.75/-.5 pair doesn't add much of a boost at all - only the slightest improvement). This means I can alternate between heavy clearing and something more manageable as needed. I am enjoying having this nice big distance from the screen, and am loving that my "creep in" distance is now only as close as my proper sitting distance to screen was previously. Need to make sure I keep that in balance even with slightly stronger diffs. But for the time being, this shake up is really fun, and it is making me think so much about how my eyes are working and how I use them.

Hi Gemily I have a question I have high cylinder and low myopia. So for my differentials I should have lower cylinder? As I can see the screen but it has some astigmatism blur And can I make only spherical drops instead of astigmatism?
@GemilyMez
@GemilyMez 2 жыл бұрын
HI. As for cyl in differentials, there are two different approaches you can take. You can either leave the CYL alone and just reduce one variable (SPH) to begin with - keep it simple. Or you can reduce up to 1 diopter of CYL for differentials, as long as the drop is equal between the eyes. If you do drop cyl from your Diffs, you might want to go easy on the SPH drop (eg only drop 1 diopter of SPH rather than 1.5). This dropping of cyl might be good, but you do run the risk of getting differentials and discovering they are not quite right, and if you have dropped both SPH and CYL it may be a little harder to narrow down which part is not working. So just dropping SPH to start with may make trouble shooting any differential discomfort easier. So, your call on how you would like to proceed! As long as when you are ready to start reducing cyl, you do it in your differentials first, before changing cyl in your norms. Here are some EndMyopia articles that relate to this topic: endmyopia.org/qa-high-astigmatism-low-myopia-sph-to-cyl-ratio-control/ endmyopia.org/how-to-choose-a-differential-prescription-if-you-have-high-astigmatism/ endmyopia.org/pro-topic-how-to-reduce-prescription-complexity/ All the best with your journey!

You said that you "only used my devices for 20-30min at a time followed by 1-2min of rest time". If 'devices' include things like phones and tablets, then that's not great. You should be aiming to limit phone use to 30 minutes or fewer a day, not a session. If you are talking about computers, then how long before you have a big break? Because lots of little breaks are not as good as a big break. For example, Jake has worked out that he can work for a maximum of 3 hours on a computer before he needs at least a 1 hour break, otherwise his ciliary muscle does not relax for the whole day, no matter what he tries. Also, the time you spend on devices is one thing - what about the distance you work on them from. And are you having to do active focus to use them? Jake also recommends 3 hours of distance vision a day, but at this stage, I think your main issue is screen use. get your phone screen time down to 30 minutes or fewer. If you are on your computer, don't work for longer than 3 hours without then having an hour outside of distance vision, and make sure you are always just outside of edge of blur - never ever inside. Be honest with yourself about your habits. Keep a log of how long you are on screens. Write it down. It helps.

Interesting. I find that for me, when my glasses correction doesn't improve my vision by much, then I can clear blur better without the glasses (e.g. if I wear -0.5/-0.25 glasses as differentials, it doesn't improve much at all, but it does stop me from being able to clear the blur). I wonder whether we are experiencing similar things there.
