No eye exercise but I saw my ophthalmologist yesterday and after 3 months of working from home due to Covid & not wearing my contacts at all, my vision improved enough to need new contacts & new glasses! She said it was because my eyes had a chance to relax enough to improve the vision. Fascinating stuff!

Does wearing glasses make you go more short sighted? I feel like my eye sight is much worse since wearing glasses.
@DoctorEyeHealth4 жыл бұрын
There are some studies that do indicate glasses/contacts may contribute to needing stronger glasses and that is why there is so much study in myopia control right now. However, we also see many people who develop worsening nearsightedness even without EVER wearing glasses. So while it may play a role - it is likely a smaller role and certainly not the only cause. I personal feel lifestyle factors and genetics play a much larger role. I hope to have some more videos on this topic soon. Thanks for watching!

@Finger_Lock_4 жыл бұрын
@@DoctorEyeHealth I believe that there's a problem with overprescribing diopters, they are only 0.25 accurate, and many soctors rather prescribe a little stronger than weaker, which your eyes adapt to. Also wearing glasses that make you see 20/20 while being tested, for lets say computer work (which somebody with high myopia needs some correction for) can also stress your eyes, and it makes sense imo to wear weaker lenses for that. Please look deeper into Endmyopia or have a chat with Jake Steiner. From the video it doesn't really seem like you've done too much research about it. Interesting video as usual regardless.

Does anyone else feel ashamed to wear glasses or eye contacts at such a young age? I definitely do since my family always I’m “blind” or at least every time we go to the eye doctor. I do admit that I spent majority of my life on screens at least when I was 7-14 (still 14 but trying to take better care of my eyes). But I can’t help having this thought in my head how my family never really payed attention to me or got me into extra curricular activities to avoid these type of things...so I really don’t see why I should be completely blamed. Especially when I was ignored and abused as a young child so I would mainly spend time on my phone. Sorry for the rant I’m just really worried right now because I don’t want to go actually blind at a young age like my 20’s or 40’s, I get really close to mental breakdowns just thinking about it. @@natlie7994 My left eye is not very good at all, in fact I am not able to do what I always wanted to do which was to be a commercial pilot and up to maybe the last year or so I felt ashamed and a waste of space but you have to look at life with more than one perspective and look at what you CAN do to make your life better. Much like yourself I spend a lot of time staring at a screen - there is no scientific proof that screens make your eyesight worse, however if you stare too long you can get dry eyes and feel perhaps dizzy and get eye strain. The best way to deal with this is to take regular breaks from the screen and make sure that during the day you utilize your ability to look at things close and far away from you to ensure you keep your eyes strong and healthy. screens make your eyes lazy and you don't really have to look far or focus much. it's basically like staring at a fancy wall. But to answer your initial question, No, I don't feel ashamed, I have learnt to accept it and look at the things I CAN do and to be proud of what I do. So keep your head up.

I fully respect eye doctors and the work they do. I am a middle aged woman. On a number of occasions over the years, I was certain that I needed reading glasses as I was holding books further and further away. On each occasion I have used simple eye exercises, taking about 5 minutes a day for a week or so and my reading vision returns. I do them periodically for maintenance. I have had numerous visits with the opticians. They don't know that I do these exercises, but they tell me that whatever I am doing to keep doing it. I don't wear any glasses at all and never had a prescription for one. My brother is over 60 years old and has been wearing reading glasses for a few years. He told me last week that he hasn't needed his glasses for the last two years, as, to my surprise, he had been doing simple eye exercises in the morning while lying in bed.

@Ishmam_Dhrubo3 жыл бұрын
Nope the eye isn't just a muscle..... You had problems with you muscles around your eyes... So you just worked on those muscles to function better. However for your eyes, there is no such thing. People with Astigmatism, Myopia, Hypermetropia cannot improve their eyesight with exercises.... They either need glasses, lenses or LASIK/PRK. So your situation is very different

@@Ishmam_Dhrubo Firstly, I didn't say the eye is "just" a muscle. Secondly, your examples are exceptions and not the standard for healthy eyesight. @archockencanto16452 жыл бұрын
@@hardyharent1047 I have lens induced Myopia and lens induced astigmatism. If they're not lens induced and due to some diseases or your genetics, then it's not fixable. I've been working on improving Myopia first. Here were my numbers before I started. Left -3.25 SPH 1.00 CYL Right - 4.25SPH 0.75 CYL Right now they are 2.5SPH left and 3.25 SPH right. Same CYL (although I haven't measured to be fair, I won't be surprised if they've also dropped by 0.25 or so). I started roughly 4-5 months ago. Although the bulk of the improvement has happened after switching my glasses which has been around 2 month ago. I've had two changes firstly of a 0.5 diopter reduction in both spheres and then of a 0.25 and 0.5 reduction on left and right respectively. And, I will say that I'm very young right now and my eyes have been extremely good before I got glasses so this rate of improvement isn't possible for most I'd assume. Moreover I've only had glasses for around 7 years. And, all that while I've had the instinct to avoid wearing glasses whenever possible because I assumed they were bad for the eyes (that was a good bet :)) Go with what Mr Steiner says of around 0.25 reduction every 2-3 months or so. Although you can start with a 0.5 reduction for the first time because you have over prescribed glasses so the actual reduction there is only 0.25 or so. And of course, active focus is key. That's all I did, Reduce the power of glasses, be outside more and do active focus outside. At my current rate I'm aiming to be free of glasses by the time I'm 19 in roughly 1.5 years. The last diopter does take a serious amount of effort to go away or so I've heard. Also, NEVER go monkey mode and reduce things by one diopter or so. And never touch two different planes at the same time, like Cylinder values (astigmatism) and Spherical values (Myopia). Your eyes are very amazing but they're not that amazing that they can change that rapidly in multiple aspects. Don't risk destroying them more. Specially if you're older. Also another tip, buy glasses in bulk from Zenni, if you don't mind looking dumb, you can get ones for 10 bucks a piece. Although the decent looking ones will cost you about £15-20. That's still years cheaper than whatever scam goes on in optical stores. Also, always go for Anti reflective/glare coating. You don't want to put more strain on your eyes whilst you're messing them up by continuously changing your glasses. And obviously I probably don't need to say this, but stop using devices a lot. 4-5 hours is more than enough. And take breaks every hour or so for 5-10 mins and look at something outside your house to restore the distance vision and relax the ciliary muscle. And please don't ask me 'how to fix my eyes' as I've seen many... Idiots asking in these comments even though Jake has said everything that needs to be said, that's it. There's no magic. You just have to: -get new glasses -stop destroying your eyes using devices or books. -active focus (on something in the distance)

The body adapts to what you give it. If you give it close up books a lot, it will adapt to reading close up. You give it glasses and it adapts to the glasses. Active focus isn't only about loosening the ciliary muscles of the eyes as you've said. The reason the eyedrops don't give a myopic person clear vision instantly is because the eye is still in the elongated shape it has changed to. It takes time, but eventually you can get the eyes back to 20/20 with the proper stimulus. simple.

Hi, I really hope that you will read this. Yes, I am experiencing improved vision exactly from Endmyopia practices. I managed to reduce my diopters by 1.5 - from -4.25 to -2.5-2.75 at the moment. I think I have a little different understanding of the goal of active focus. It's idea is not to strengthen any muscles. It's idea is to provide a stimulus for the eyes to shorten. The same way as focusing for long time up close is providing stimulus for the eyes to get "longer", actively focusing far away should be providing reverse stimulus for the eyes to shorten. So the theory behind the practice is that you improve your vision by shortening the Axial length and therefore bringing the natural focal point of the internal lens closer to the retina when looking at larger distances. Disclaimer: I am by no means a professional. I just wanted to share my understanding of the principle and my experience.

I was born with perfect vision without glasses until age of 18 years old, this is the age when I started to become a nerd, reading everyday for more than 10 hours a day without rest, this has caused my vision to become weak slowly and gradually. I didn't believe I needed glasses until I started to have difficulty seeing faces of people sitting few feet away across from me. My first glasses prescription was very strong about 2 diopter. The first time I started wearing them I felt dizzy because they distorted the true image I used to normally see with my two eyes, all I could see is a distorted image , as I move my head the image size and shape kept changing, it didn't feel normal and I kept feeling too much eye strain as if the glasses were doing something to my eye muscles. My optometrist recommended that I wear the glasses all the time to reduce eye strain and improve my vision. After wearing glasses for only 3 months, the distortion started to disappear however my vision started to get worst, it changed from 2 diopter to 4.75 diopter in just under 3 month. My near vision got worst and I couldn't understand how I could have myopia and suffer from seeing things very close, I couldn't read a book without wearing my glasses and I can't see my face in the mirror without wearing glasses. This was not an issue for me prior to wearing glasses as my near vision was perfect, and only had problems seeing things far away. I truly believe the glasses has caused my vision to get worst. I experimented a little, took my glasses off for six month however I didn't do any eye exercises then I went to optimist to see if there was any improvement. My prescription was reduced from 4.75 to 4. Not much of an improvement but definitely some improvement to prove to me that glasses can damage vision because only by removing them has caused my vision to improve a little. Going back to university has forced me to wear glasses again, and now my eyes are back again to 4.75 and getting more worst. Can someone suggest to me some eye exercises that they personally tried and has helped them because the internet is full of garbage exercises and I don't know which one to trust. Thanks in advance

I have an adult friend who had needed glasses her whole life and had a strong prescription. She did one of these programs (see clearly method, if memory serves) very diligently for two years. Her prescription got lighter and lighter every few months. She had to change glasses like 6 times. Finally she got her eyes down to like 20/30 or better and didn't need glasses any more. She still doesn't need glasses. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it, personally, because I saw the exercises and they seemed like nonsense. All doctors (and wikipedia) agree that it's nonsense, but I watched it happen. It's not quackery. After seeing that I can't believe doctors still don't believe it. They must have seen cases like this. I guess there just aren't that many people with enough diligence to really do those programs.

After reading so many comments I also felt like I should share what I observed being a myopic person. I got specs of -1 D power at the age of 15 and like anybody else I hated wearing glasses and it's been 4 years since then, my right eye number is still -1 D and my left eye number increased to -1.5D( and that because of increased screen time in covid) and I only used my glasses while studying or focusing on board and rest of the time I use to see things without glasses. And my friend who got glasses previous year with -1D power his number gradually increased from -1D to -3.5D in both his eyes within one year even though he workout and is very health conscious. So I think wearing glasses all the time just worsens your eyesight. Just take a break and relax your eyes by removing your glasses for sometime, go out for a walk and eat good. I know my comment doesn't help in anyway in improving the vision but it'll surely help you by not further worsening your vision.

My sister told me that she gets dependent on her glasses, that her vision is better if she doesn't rely on her glasses, it sounds really counter intuitive but when I got glasses last week I have noticed every time I take my glasses off I notice I almost get double vision, or at least it is really blurry compared to what I remember before. I'm wondering if this is an illusion because people are struggling to make sense of the difference in visual acuity. My grandma has never got glasses and is blind as a bat because she has been worried about this conspiracy theory. She is 94 and still thinks glasses will make her eyes worse but can't even recognise her own grandson from 10 metres away!

Glasses do make your myopia worse. It conditions your eyeballs to elongate and stay that way according to the requirements of your glasses. Tell me, would you wear glasses meant for you to see far distances clearly while reading a book that's about a foot from your eyes? It doesn't make sense biologically. You wouldn't understand yet cuz you got them recently, so that's okay. I'm 16 and have been wearing glasses since I was 8. My first prescription was -0.5. I was told to always wear glasses at every moment except sleeping. I rebelled and avoided them whenever I could, but still had to wear them cuz my parents believed my optician and were strict. This caused my prescription to increase to -1.5 d over a span of 4 years. That was in 2017. Now ever since I stopped wearing glasses except when I really need them, my prescription has remained the same for 3 years. In fact, I'd say it is better since I figured out active focus. This isn't a a conspiracy theory. It is fact which people refuse to accept since they want an easy solution that helps them instantly, but destroys them in the long run.

The amount you under-correct by is also important. too much blur is counter productive. I love this topic! As a vision therapist, I work with people who have accommodative excess/insufficiency every day- many of them have actually been given prescriptions that are vastly off because the optometrist didn’t recognize their accommodative spasms, but it’s true that vision therapy does not affect any outside curvature, but our inside ability to adapt to a certain range. I think that it is interesting, though, that during COVID, we have seen a dramatic increase with patients struggling with accommodation, and my theory is this over-extended period on the computer and inside is bringing accommodative problems to the population

I have to say I just started trying reduced lens therapy and have dropped from a OD -6.50 and OS -5.75 with a -.50 cylinder and a 005 axis to a -6.00 and -5.00 with no astigmatism correction. I can see 20/20 in this pair now. In two weeks I'm lowering again to a -5.00 and -4.50. If I'm doing nearwork I'm keeping my glasses off and if I'm using the computer for work I'm wearing differentials. I understand that they're the "specialists" but all that seemed to be happening to me was that I was becoming more and more myopic with an increased risk for eye issues like retinal detachment. If they're going to argue it's totally safe and reasonable for me to take a laser to my eye (Lasik) that doesn't even resolve the root of my myopia I fail to see the harm in at least trying the reduced lens method and some eye relaxation and focusing techniques and exercises. I reached out to my optometrist during the pandemic about this before I started and he actually told me that if what I have is lens induced myopia from wearing my distance correction while doing close up work for years it is completely theoretically possible for me to reverse the damage. He even offered to prescribe me a pair of differentials for the computer. So, I wouldn't call it anything to write home about yet but if I make it into the -3.00s with a test from optometrist I will post my old script with my new script for people to see. So far, something positive does seem to be occurring and honestly, I'm the type of person who would rather explore the option for themselves than write it off at someone else's urging.

First you said: "Active focus is not about relaxing the ciliary muscles" Then you said: "This stimulus is what improves the eyesight and loosens the ciliary muscles spasm" Clearly, you are making two contradictory statements. 15:00 You are completely correct. Simply being in our "nose on book", society, our normal eyes (all of them) change their refractive state downward at a rate of -0.5 diopters per year. If you want to prevent this, you can (when still confirming 20/50, on your Snellen) wear a +2.5 Diopter plus lens, for all close work. This is effective. That is how I got my refraction to change by 1 diopters, getting to +0.5 Diopters, and confirmed 20/20. This is obviously science, and out of scope for Optometry, sad to say. When you do watch TV or close up things, you should wear a quite lower prescription than prescribed for long distance 20/20 vision (differential glasses), just enough to se it clearly if you focus, and for long distance you should wear normalised glasses (just below your prescribed, so your eyes have room to improve. Question: Can exercising your eye with focus adjustment help improve eyesight? If eye muscles become weaker the more you adjust to seeing things up close, then couldn't doing the opposite help "reverse" near sightedness a way? The common focus exercise is shifting focus from things that are up close to far away multiple times. Any thoughts on the effectiveness of this?
@DoctorEyeHealth4 жыл бұрын
It is possible to train the coordination between the focusing muscles(ciliary body and extra-ocular muscles) and you can even train your eyes to improve your accommodative (focus) function. But this is dependent on the flexibility of the crystalline lens inside the eye, if a person is young, then it is more likely to improve your accommodative function, after the age of 40- this tends to become more difficult due to age related lens changes. However, people cant really learn to reverse your accommodative function, you can relax your ciliary body to a point, but even at it's maximum relaxation point- this may not reverse myopia.

Active focus works ( and vision therapy in general), as you mentioned, for people who had a bad habit of tensing their eyes and muscles too much. Less than two weeks ago, I got my newly prescribed glasses on -3.25 with astigmatism -.5 in one eye. But I am driving a Tesla and my overcorrected glasses make it impossible to read the Tesla touchscreen panel. I am over 45 years old, by the way, and more sensitive to over-corrected glasses than younger folks. Yes, I got 20/20 or even 20/15 vision from the new glasses during bright daylight, but I don't need it. I can read number plates just fine on 20/40 vision with my older -2.25 glasses. With active focus (relaxing eye muscle and visual cortex), indeed, I can read number plates further away on 20/30 or even 20/20 vision with my older glasses in bright daylight. That right there is at least 1 diopter improvement in less than 2 weeks. But, I heard that this is a typical result caused by a combination of over-corrected prescription (I believe my true diopter now is much lower than -2.75), improved lighting situations, and active focus (a.k.a bad eye strain habit reduction.) Now, I can read the Tesla touch screen panel just fine and can drive legally with my older -2.25 glasses. Can I reduce it 1 diopter further in the next two weeks? Certainly not. I agree as you explained in the video, that it works only in certain cases and situations. Now my situation has changed and no big improvement is possible anymore. Beware of some claims out there that clear flashes are the same as active focus. Clear flashes, as the name suggests, maintain clarity at random time for a very short period (a.k.a flashes.) Active focus maintains clarity on command (not random) and for as long as you want.

I'll never forget the last time I went to the doctor for a routine check-up. When I left I felt really bad and depressed because of a single comment made by the old woman who was the optometrist there. Usually that optometrist makes a series of exams and measurements and gives that report to the doctor for the actual appointment. And actually I didn't feel anything was particularly wrong with my eyes but she must have been a sadist because she said in a very theatrical tone "ohh dear this looks bad!". She didn't even say why, she just threw that at me and left me pale with dread. I felt so tormented. And the funny thing is the doctor didn't even seem worried about anything during the appointment but in truth that sadistic optometrist had actually looked into my eyes with some equipment so I don't know what the hell she saw there that was "so bad" or if the doctor was made aware of it. But that single remark took hold of me and I became so depressed and I never got any appointment since (and that was years ago!) for fear of hearing something terrible. I got so depressed and I still live in fear, I mean what did she even mean?? I have come across some pretty callous sadistic health professionals but that old bat took the cake and really put this dark cloud over me that never went away, and I got a sort of phobia of doctor's appointments in general and check-ups. I haven't been to any doctor in years even though I know I should, but the fear of hearing bad news is so paralysing I just don't. It's extraordinary how a single remark made by an evil btch can have such a huge lasting negative impact. I mean the fact she observed my eyes through equipment made it impossible for me to just shrug it off and move on. Later I kicked myself that I made no further questions but the moment she said that I felt this terror that I couldn't focus on anything else and was kind of in shock. I don't even know if my eyesight got worse over the years because that remark she made sank in and created this subconscious beliefe that there is something terribly wrong with my eyes.

With all due respect, I think you completely missed the point on what you call the Active Focus/Endmyopia method (at 8:09) or what you could call 'reduced lens therapy'. Think outside the box on this. My interpretation is that ciliary muscle lockup contributes to only a small portion of the need for glasses (say 0.75 to 1.0 diopters). The rest is due to axial elongation (lens induced from hyperopic defocus). Endmyopia says that nearsightedness is first caused by ciliary musle spasm from too much up-close work. No need for correction at this point as it can be fixed with a lot of outdoor distance vision time. However, most optometrists will prescribe the first pair of glasses at this stage. If you wear these distance vision glasses for upclose, it induces worse vision and the need for stronger and stronger prescriptions (lens induced myopia). In a nutshell, Endmyopia states that the solution is to wear slightly weaker prescriptions (that get you to say 20/30). Now, with this small amount of myopic defocus, you will see slight blurry images which you attempt clear by up using active focus. This challenges and stimulates the eyes to get better by not only removing the ciliary muscle lockup, but reducing the eyeball length. Similar to physical therapy, this process takes time and is not instantaneous. Basically, you have to reverse all of the damage optometrists have caused by prescribing glasses in the first place and with too much correction. Optometrists should be performing vision therapy at the first onset of childhood myopia and not prescribing glasses. There are countless number of people that have had success with this method. Personally, I have been doing this since May 2019 and I have been able to reduce my prescription from -5.75 to -4.50 so far (optometrist confirmed). At about 1 diopter per year improvement, I should be glasses free in a few more years.

Great discussion. I'm glad you covered it. Myself, I had a great success with using incrementally reduced strength glasses with active focus. I was at -2.00 dioptres SPH at my worst. Today I see 20/20. This was confirmed by my optician and I have had the glasses requirement removed from my driving license as I passed the eye test with flying colours. So, I absolutely believe that myopia is reversible. I am helping others also. The standout person so far has dropped from -6.00 dioptres SPH to -4.00 dioptres SPH and she's still making progress. You raise a great point though? What is the science behind this improvement. Is it reduction of spasm in the ciliary body? Is it improved interpretation of the image received by the retina by the visual cortex? Is it a reduction in axial length of the eyeball? Could it be a combination of these factors and more? I think so. @15:15 You talked about near sightedness physiology and how living in a world where everything is close-up leads to increasing myopia. I agree and think this is the case. However, is the converse also true? If that is the negative feedback loop which makes myopia worse, is the converse a positive feedback loop that makes your vision better? I think so and that is my working theory. I'm also a soft tissue therapist and have lots of experience with how other muscles in the body respond to treatment and reeducation of movement patterns. There is resolution of issues at the local level such as an injured hamstring, but there is also neurological reeducation that happens between the brain and the muscle which makes improvements in the condition. With regard to myopia, I think the role of re-education between what happens between the brain and the eye is underplayed. Anyway, thanks for opening up the discussion as it is a fascinating topic. As is all human biology. Have a good day!

Changes in the muscles is not really how "Active Focus" works to improve your vision. The idea is that you wear a slightly reduced prescription and then "actively" make the eyes focus to squeeze out a little more clarity to make up for that reduced prescription. This in turn, signals the eyes that your eyeball is too long and is focusing in the wrong spot. And here is the magic... your eyes slowly over a few months get shorter(!) to the point where it's now focusing in the right spot without using active focus. Then it is time to reduce your prescription again and you repeat the process.

I've only heard of Bates, all the other stuff is new to me. I don't think I've followed any scientific methods exactly, but 4 things that helped me stopped using my glasses: 1) massaging my eyes, eye muscles, positioning of skin around my eyes, and applying pressure on my eye ridge bone and very very slight pressure directly on my eyeball has helped my lens find specific positions where it can focus better (almost 20/20), 2) eating very well especially cutting out sugar, carbohydrates, and eating massive amounts of blueberries, 3) adjusting the posture of my jaw, skull, and column seems to affect the positioning of my eyeballs and immediate improve vision, and 4) slight bulging or pulsing of the eyeballs and frequent cleaning with nearly frozen water, as well as rotating the eyeball in such a cold solution, which probably has more affect on the muscles. The only other thing I do that is not a bio method is focus on objects at absurdly far distances using pinholes or some other very small hole, its basically the same concept as a high F stop in the aperture of a camera, the more light is constricted onto the lens, the more everything goes into focus. Thanks Doctor for the honest and open-minded video! Really interesting stuff. Out of all these natural methods, the one that sounds to me like it is actually based on science is the Reduced Lens method with active focus ("endmyopia"). I think you've left out some essential parts of the theory of how it is supposed to work, and so, you haven't succeeded in debunking it. It is not just about relaxing the ciliary muscle, as if that by itself is enough to eliminate your need for glasses. All relaxing the ciliary muscle does is to enable you to focus a *little bit further* than you could if the muscle is tensed up or in spasm. If you have any significant myopia (say -1D or more) this will never be sufficient to give you 20/20. The point is to combine this with reduced lens use, so that your lenses are just powerful enough to help you achieve clarity with active focus, but not powerful enough that the eye is always forced into clarity without any effort by you. So, with your reduced glasses, you can see clearly just enough that your brain maintains a reference of clarity, and is motivated to seek it out, and this provides stimulus that causes the eyeball actually to shorten over time, over months and years of gradually reducing the lens power. They say typically you can reduce .25 diopters every 3 or 4 months, or .75 per year on average. It is the same process in reverse that led to the myopia gradually growing in the first place. It is not a quick fix based on training muscles or any such thing. And it has to be combined with lifestyle changes such as improving close-up work habits, never wearing the full distance correction for close-up, and spending a lot of time outside in activities that heavily engage the distance vision. I found your thought experiment with the eye drops really interesting and thoughtful - I'm slightly suspicious of those dilating drops in the eye exam, and I wonder if they somehow skew the results of the test one way or the other, compared to how I see in real life. I think it is a bit of a leap to equate the paralyzing effect of the drops with the relaxing effect that is achieved during active focus. I have no idea, you might be right, but it seems equally likely to me that the paralyzing drops might actually lock the muscle in a contracted state, or at least prevent it from relaxing fully. I have heard stories about optometrists getting frustrated with active focus patients, because they can see equally well through a lot of different test lenses, so they threaten to paralyze their ciliary in order to figure out their "real" prescription! So, I imagine these drops to be anti-active focus, not equivalent to it, though I don't know how the physiology works. And like I said at the beginning, nobody claims that active focus by itself will cure myopia, without the other pieces of the puzzle. One thing that I can attest personally is that active focus is undoubtedly a real thing that your eyes can learn how to do. Some people cannot sing or wiggle their ears, and it's very hard to explain to such a person how to do it, but it's equally clear that the human body is capable of doing it. I can look at slightly blurry distant text and blink and bring it into focus, no exercises needed, just a familiarity with how the sensation feels. And I can wear glasses that are a full diopter less than what the optometrist prescribed me two months ago, and still see 20/20 with effort.

Thanks so much for this detailed response and info. I will have some more content addressing myopia, glasses and new research in the next few months. Greatly appreciate you sharing all this.

Exactly! I was really hoping the doctor would have addressed this. I'm starting the reduced lens method (endmyopia) soon, and it seems totally legit. Wearing full prescription doing so much close-up work for 20 years seems so wrong looking back. If the axial length was increased because the convergent power is too high, then the reverse for sure should happen as well.

@@DoctorEyeHealth Thanks Doctor for taking the time to read and respond to my earlier comment! Here is an update a year and a half later, using the reduced lens method ("Endmyopia"): After going through seven pairs of distance glasses, from my starting point, I've reduced my right eye's correction by 1.25 diopters sphere and 0.75 diopters cylinder; and my left eye by 0.75 diopters sphere and 1.5 diopters cylinder. I started with a complex and highly unequal prescription, and now I've completely eliminated the cylinder correction and brought the eyes a little closer together. I still see 20/20 with effort, and my eyes are much more comfortable, less dry and less headache-inducing than at any time in my adult life. In my car I keep driving glasses that are just 0.25 more powerful in each eye, and with those I can see pretty much perfectly (20/15 or 20/13). I just don't wear them all the time because I want to keep improving. :) If you haven't tried this method yourself or researched it in depth, I highly recommend it! The main spokesman, Jake, is really offbeat and often cynical, but the science makes more and more sense the deeper you get. Thanks for all your content and I hope you've been well.

My original eyesigth couple of years ago was -4.5 myopia. During summertime I didn't use the phone, laptop or TV and after a checkup the doctor said my eyesight was -4 if I remember correctly, so i can say that was a big improvement. But can you survive nowadays without using Tv or phone? No, but you can definetly minimise it

I'm a bit near-sighted but only wear glasses when I'm trying to read smaller print. I just got new glasses about 2 years ago and can't notice that, the more I use them, the worse my eyes get! I DID ASK for corrective lenses!! However, there are times when I'm trying to see something without glasses and it's kinda hard to see it that well and, all of a sudden, my vision clears up almost 100% for a few seconds! I enjoy the sudden boost in my vision for as long as it lasts but, if I blink, it tends to go away! Like, right now, I can see what I'm typing without glasses and can see almost everything perfectly (except for a couple of letter combos I need a tiny bit of help with). However, if I lean way back away from the screen, I need a LOT more help being able to read this!! Then, last night, I just finished writing a bunch of stuff and decided to lean back all the way, again, just to take a break and, all of a sudden, I had no problem at all reading the screen!! The screen and where I'm sitting are perfectly static and do NOT move! I'm the only moving portion of this! So, what is it that I'm doing to make my vision better by itself and how can I get it to do that all the time so I don't need glasses anymore?

Thank you. I just got glasses today, and I makes the world seem so much clearer. It’s awesome, but I miss not having to wear them. I’ve started watching some of your videos and they help me accept glasses more. Thanks man and keep up the good work!

I have myopia, -4.50 in both eyes. I am following what Mark Warren has to say, and it is helping. Please check out his videos, if your mind is truly open. Thank you.

You haven't studied active focus enough. the point is not in that but the fact that the eye accommodates to the focal plane! It works and a ton of people have (optometrist confirmed) proofs. Me too. I got from -0.75 to -0.25 (20/20). I'm having trouble with the last quarter. but the reason I even started with this is that I initially noticed I couldn't see TV after I started using glasses without them, and I was perfectly able to. then I realized what Jake is talking about, about how wearing minus lenses for closeup (for low prescription) is hurting your eyes, even more, adding more strain, making eye elongate further. This makes so much sense! And also, for higher myopes how they should just wear the amount of minus they need to see closeup. And after doing that they need much less for distance! ANd over time they improve. People with the highest numbers often fastest improve.
