Closing the Chapter on No oils & Curly Cuts: Refocusing on Healthy Hair

I’m sharing these final thoughts about this topic through the lens of my own experience. This has been one of the most challenging periods in my career as a stylist. I’ve always strived to provide value to my clients through a curated approach.
The Wash n Go style being as new as it is and us loving how type 4 naturals were able to wear their hair out without twisting it. In addition to shaping our hair through Curly Cuts. We loved seeing our clients finally feel good about wearing their natural hair.
However, with my newfound knowledge about this new styling method .. it wasn’t hard to become more style focused. Which prior to this I was very much health oriented. I’ve realized that natural hair requires more nuance than ever. And it certainly isn’t the best style for all. So back to my PRE Cut It Kinky focus. We will taking the positives from the experience and recreating our future.

I have several. My signature Coily Go is a style that lasts 3 weeks. But it still feels like their hair is out. Any style that requires less manipulation and low tension.

Thank you for this video! You shared lots of gems. Question: You mentioned that the client's initial breakage was due to over manipulation from styling wash and gos. When she returned, she only had breakage in the front. How can she prevent or limit breakage if she wants to continue wearing wash and go’s. Is breakage inevitable?

Great question! I guess I needed to be more specific. When you lack the moisture due to no leaves ins with great emollients ( not all leave ins are created equal in this regard ). This leaves the hair more prone to breakage when manipulated. Since then we’ve added more steps into her routine that will add to the pliability and strength of the hair. Of course she will retain more length if she does less in styling thereby reducing manipulation. But if her expectations are clear on her long term goals and potential. She will then decide what makes her happiest.

Thank you very much for your honesty and integrity, it is refreshing! But know you may one of a very few stylists who have spoken up, but you are well supported by many consumers including me! I have been a subscriber for a while but a silent observer. I have referred many of my family and friends to your channel because of not only you being a great stylist but one of honesty and we love to see it. I wish I could sit in your chair but Im up here in NY. 😭 I’m also in SFTS and followed this method for almost 3 years thinking I was getting my hair healthy. I was shocked when I went to a stylist and she told me how dry my hair and compromised it had become. 🫠 I have hair much like your clients but I am on the road to recovery. I have been protective styling since it’s so cold and added back Leave-ins and Deep Conditioning every week until my hair gets back on track.
