"The first time we were seized was really a shock (NTV seizure in April, 2001), but this time we expected it. I guess we will be quite good at it the third time. Our working time is getting shorter. STORYLINE:
Court bailiffs ordered Russia's media ministry on Monday to take the country's largest independent television station, TV6, off the air.
The court had originally ordered TV6 to close after a suit brought by minority shareholder Lukoil-Garant, a pension fund owned by Russian oil giant Lukoil.
Lukoil-Garant, which is itself minority-owned by the Russian state, demanded that the station be liquidated because it failed to bring a profit.
Last week TV6 had said it would voluntarily give up its broadcasting licence so that its journalists could form a new company to keep broadcasting.
But, on Monday, TV6 said it wanted to keep the licence.
The Russian Media Ministry has already said permanent control of the station will be put out to tender in March or April.
The months-long legal battle over TV6 has revived concern about media freedom in Russia, and its disappearance from the airwaves as of midnight (2100 GMT on Monday) is likely to put new international pressure on President Vladimir Putin.
The fight heated up on Monday as TV6 director Yevgeny Kiselyov said the government had pressured him to accept a deal to rupture ties with TV6's owner, Boris Berezovsky.
Kiselyov said that when Russia's top arbitration court ordered TV6 dissolved on January 11, Media Minister Mikhail Lesin called the station's executive director to propose that its journalists could stay on the air if they gave up on Berezovsky.
Berezovsky is a controversial businessman and fierce critic of the Kremlin who is living abroad to avoid fraud charges he calls politically motivated.
