The weakest link is that plastic spin gear. Teeth wear down. Rebuild kits are under $25. Lots better than $150 or more for a new transmission. Thanks for giving me a another heads up for what's inside before tear into mine. Sounds like a gear slipping when it tries to go into the spin cycle. Other videos show teeth worn on that larger diameter plastic gear.

This washer was toast anyway. But yeah, the transmission is stout.

Is that what makes a knocking noise while agitating. In spin cycle there’s no noise 😇😇😇

tools... here's how I did it. I'm not rich. I buy a tool every time I worked on something over the years. I always bought as good of a tool as I could when a good tool was necessary. Now I own every tool I cold need and never have to buy a tool anymore. that includes lathes, milling machine, welders, sanders, table saw, routers, electrical tools, every plyer and cutter you can imagine, drills adn drill presses, bandsaws of all kinds of sizes, air tools... etc, you get the picture. I can fix anything now.

The clip that you are calling a "spring clip" is actually a snap ring and the proper tool to remove snap rings is called, (no mystery here) a snap ring plier, and they come in both internal and external. The one you are removing is an external snap ring; they go over the outside of a shaft, while an internal snap ring is mounted inside a hole and has to be squeezed "inwards" to remove it, hence the name Internal Snap Ring. Internal snap rings are commonly used to retain bearings inside a bored hole.

Thanks for posting this. I have a problem transmission that looks like your teardown. It's from a Kenmore 110 series washer. The shaft wobbles a bit when turning. There seems to be excessive play, but I'm not really sure. Also, there's some oil oozing out from the shaft-to-housing seal. What parts, other than the oil seal, do you think need to be replaced to fix it?

The shaft on all of them seem to wobble a bit, but sounds like the bushing/bearing may be worn.

@@captainahab5650 Bushing/bearing inside the gearbox? Since the gears aren't excessively worn and still mesh fairly tightly, seems like the only thing that's keeping the shaft from wobbling excessively is the worn seal that I'm replacing.

@@ptmoy1 mine had some kind of bronze bushing, but I imagine there must be a seal with an in-built bushing too.

If the transmission is really old, just replace it. A lot of these parts are fairly expensive and quickly add up in cost. You can find a new transmission for around $160.

Anyone know what part of the neutral drain assembly goes bad and allows them to drain and spin at the same time? Thought I had already asked this, but it was not showing. It did finally show up, so I deleted it. I also wanted to mention the neutral drain assembly as being the culprit.

Nice! Glad you were able to figure it out. I Believe there's an available rebuild kit for that. Usually only $14-$15 and shipping. Beats buying a new washer!

@@jeromedavis8575 Maytag. You can purchase Maytag gear and transmission oil online. I wouldn't use anything else, but if you had to tear it down this far, I'm guessing warranty isn't an issue. If I absolutely had to guess and had no other choice, I'd say it was 70w oil.

@@jeromedavis8575 this video is pretty old, I just remember it was a Maytag, very likely the direct drive. Until now, it's the only washer brand I liked. (Ease of repair.) I inherited an LG so until that dies it's what I have.
