I have a very specific exception to the "don't buy things that are not for your current self" When I decided to recover from my ED, I bought a bunch of cute clothes that were for my old, healthy size, and it made the thought of gaining weight way less upsetting 💙 It's the opposite of keeping clothes that are too small and make you feel bad about yourself

also! tangentially! Ive had nothing but trouble with online brands like Parade and MeUndies. They suck bad and do not last long at all, especially sucks when youre spending a premium on them. Had holes in my MeUndies develop after only a few months of owning them and following the care instructions to a T. A trick for wrinkly clothes! Put them in the dryer with a damp washcloth for about 10 min or so. The steam from the washcloth will have it fixed quick.

I think it boils down to some version of not listening to yourself about what you like and want, either because you are trying to stay on trend or impress someone else or whatever, or because you haven’t yet learned how to listen to yourself and you can’t parse your own opinion from others’ opinions or whatever someone else is telling you is right/ cool; some people really do like staying on trend, some like having their tiddies out, some don’t mind dry cleaning/ ironing, but you have to know yourself

Not often said but if you thrift the trends rather than buy new and always donate to the thrift store or give to others rather than dispose of, it’s actually perfectly fine to engage in trendy clothing that’ll only be popular a season. If you go often, get the 1/2 off tags or sign up for half off texts at some, it can be dirt cheap to participate in trends and very eco friendly at the same time. Plus if you wear them a ton one season even it’s worth it to me, my style and taste as someone with a developing brain has changed every year of my life, as I’m finally getting a working prefrontal cortex I for some reason love to have a set of outfits for every season and keep all my other clothes in trunks or garment bags when they’re not in use. Sometimes a trend I haven’t worn since I was 15 will all of the sudden cycle back and I’m so glad I have the random piece to match lol.

i think a good example for the first one with overly trendy things are, like the top you showed, pieces with many bows sewn/printed on. with the bow trend i love that you can just customise things you already have with some ribbon from a craft store but when i see all these tops with bows and ruffles and lace it’s almost overwhelming and like trying too hard i also think this is partly because it’s just kind of overdone now since coquette has gotten so popular ( i used to think these super girly tops are really cute but now they just look basic and like they’re all the same ones from shein oder even urban outfitters) of course if you like this style keep wearing it, it’s just a thought i had:))

Can you maybe do a "makeup you will regret buying"? I have been looking at makeup i want to buy but buying makeup can sometimes be an expensive mistake. Blushes and very pigmented blush are a trend that I have fallen for but i chicken out of using them

If a blush is too intense you can use the old fingernail trick and blend out with a brush. The fingernail trick is using the side tip of your nail to tap some tiny dots of product on to your face. One or two dots might be the sweet spot, or maybe 4, or 10 depending and then you blend it out and layer until you have the amount needed. If it’s powder, then just barely grazing the surface with a brush does the same job. Those ultra high pigment situations can mean that the product lasts longer because you only use a smidge of it.
