question brodie. i really think i have a great idea but i just need an explanation on what pattern is. I wanna make more street wear with sweats, fullzips, and hoodies but i want to make sure i know what i’m talkin about before i start designing
@nicholasakoto Жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out the vid! So basically your pattern is your blueprint for your garment and it allows the manufacturer to reproduce the garment with accuracy. Google “technical fashion terms” and that should be a good start to help you describe your designs better

@nicholasakoto Жыл бұрын
@@haffa0905 often a manufacturer will make a pattern based on your measurements. But if you want, you can have a pattern made locally and then send it to your manufacturer

Question? Can I just send the manufacturer a sweater, jacket etc.. that I've bought n like that size ,length everything about it and ask them to make a sample exactly like the ones I send?
@nicholasakoto2 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can do that as long as you don’t mind parting ways with it. But personally to save on shipping and time I would just take accurate measurements of the garment and send it to them
@jaimininorath57602 жыл бұрын
If i get a sample and i am happy with it. do I then order a full size run to make sure their grading is correct or should I source a local pattern maker to make sure they make the grade that I want?
@nicholasakoto Жыл бұрын
Both routes are ways you can take. Ordering a sample in each size can be costly but it may save money down the line by reducing mistakes. If you can link up with a local pattern maker/tailor, I’d suggest doing that because then you can sit down with them and actually make the necessary changes to the fit in real time. Then take all that info to the manufacturer after
@jaimininorath5760 Жыл бұрын
@@nicholasakoto Thanks for the feedback man. I think it will be easier to ask the manu for the full size run with no graphics to see how well they can do it. or i even found that a lot of places use a formula in excel to grade their size range. I think i will give this a go and see how it works.

Hi, Nick. I’ve studied fashion and want to start my own brand. Does it make sense to make the muslin mock ups myself then shows these to manufacturer’s. Also would it be better if I used a live body to fit my mock-up or a mannequin?
@nicholasakoto Жыл бұрын
Not sure if I had responded to another comment or yours so I’m responding just incase lol Making the Muslin samples yourself would be good if you’re able to do it. That allows you to work out more design issues before bringing the manufacturer in. Also having clothes on a live model can definitely help in communication. I say anything that can decrease mistakes is worth including 👍🏽

Heyy, what would be the process to manufacture if you have already made the dress but you just want to take it to manufacturers to make more.
@nicholasakoto Жыл бұрын
Well if you don’t have a pattern then you can either send them the dress or send them detailed measurements of the dress for them to make a pattern. If you have a pattern then you can just send that to them either physically or digitally. After that the materials just need to be sourced, have a sample made to your liking and then you can move on to bulk production

Would the measurements be for each size? Or let’s say I like the way a shirt fits on me. Can I give the measurements on an extra large shirt and the manufacturer makes the rest on the measurements for the other sizes in ratio of the extra large example?
@nicholasakoto2 жыл бұрын
So you can give a manufacturer the measurements of a specific size and then they can use that to determine the measurements for the other sizes. But make sure to ask them what their “Grading Rule” is. That way you know how much they add or subtract from measurements to make the other sizes I’ve had times where I let a manufacturer grade on their own and all my tees were practically the same size lol
