Sephiroth himself ist not a bad person. He is a victim of the experiments of his parents Hojo and Lucrecia. They implementedJenova cells into fetuses. Those fetuses became Sephiroth, Genesis and Angeal. Jenova itself is a parasite which lands on different planets to suck its "life-energy" Sephiroth was irritated in Nibelheim and thought mankind erased the ancient folk of Creta and thought he was the last survivor. So he killed the townspeople in Nibelheim as revenge and hatred against Shinra. However, the truth is, that Jenova killed the Creta when it landed on the planet. After Cloud had thrown Sephiroth and Jenovas head to the bottom of the Nibelheim reactor, Jenova and Sephiroth fusioned together in the stream of life. From that point on Jenova controlled the body of sephiroth and the story of the main FF7 begins. In a nutshell: Jenova is the bad thing in Final Fantasy VII, not Sephiroth. The goal is to erase Jenova which happened in FF7: Advent Children

Sephiroth, his friend. got Killed by Seph and is on runaway with Cloud since they became experiments that ran away on the way, met Angeal copy (Lazard) but died in the end. tried offering Genesis help but instead got a boss fight (lol xD). the Angeal copy monster from Midgar died protecting Lazard and brought him Aerith's 89th (last) letter sent to Zack. and Died protecting Cloud all he wanted was just to see Aerith for the last time he literally lost everything

There's an interesting theory saying that Cloud might have some kind of extraordinary abilities, even without Jenova cells, due to the fact that the planet chose him to save her from Sephiroth and Jenova. Then seeing it was not working, she created the Weapons, but ultimately Cloud ended up doing the task the planet gave him. I personally like to think that even his last weapon (Ultima weapon I think) is the materialisation of this wish the planet had. Plus you find it on the Ultima Weapon when you defeat her so it could make sense. Maybe some kind of test to see if he was worthy or something. Or it might just be his great physical abilities which he always had. But because he didn't believed in his capacities at the time he wasn't able to use them until he was going to die.

Yeah it's unfortunate that the Compilation portrays Cloud as such an emo kid, when in fact he laughed, cracked jokes, flirted, and messed around all throughout Final Fantasy VII. Tetsuya Nomura completely changed his character to being somber beginning with Advent Children, and has unfortunately left casual Final Fantasy viewers thinking he's an unsmiling git, but really he was quite the loveable jackass in the original game.

And yet, our Boy was too ashamed to admit he didn’t make soldier. And that he was there all along, just as depicted when Tifa and Cloud restore his memory in FFVII. Did it never cross Zack’s mind to refer to or talk to Cloud? Even in uniform?! For a boy who was ashamed of his lack of accomplishment, he became something more later on: Zack’s Living Legacy, and Angeal’s descended disciple.

That was why she invited Cloud to join AVALANCHE to figure out more. Certainly she knew that Cloud was telling an untrue story, but she remained silent then because she was worried. But in disc 2, things will become clearer as Tifa clarifies their memories...

If you've played all the way through you eventually learn that the memories of Niblehiem are actually Zacks, not Clouds. After escaping Hojo's lab he's confused, and disoriented, and takes not only a lot of Zacks memories, but a bit of his personality as well. On the date with Aeris,, she notes that "I think I must have seen him again in you" Since the game is from Cloud's perspective, we can only know as much as he does, we see what he sees, and if he think they're his memories, than so do we.

Damn, and this is why FFVII is so beloved. A main character who started out as a nobody, who wanted to be a somebody and was able to achieve that dream (even if the experience basically sucked). I also love Steve Burton's voice acting in this game (except for Zack's death... :( ) I think he really captures the quiet, shy boy that Cloud was at first. (please do not screw up the remake, Burton, we are counting on you!)

Well, if I remember right, it was Hojo's Mako experiments on Cloud that messed with his mind and gave him his multiple personality disorder. We don't actually get to see Cloud's original personality again until the end of FF7, and then in Advent Children they made him brooding and too emo.

What about in Dirge of Cerberus? He finally moved on in the end of Advent Children, and I saw him back to normal in Dirge of Cerberus. Anyway, imagine contracting a strange disease that has no cure, while still in mourning of a friend's death, and he can't help to think it was a punishment. Oh and when he couldn't help healing the orphan he cares about. He's brooding, yes, he looks for forgiveness, right? I wouldn't be happy too if I contracted a weird disease. Emo?? At least he's not doing stupid things like trying to kill himself. Heck, he even still fought Kadaj and the gang. If he's so emo, he would have let himself killed the first time he was attacked by Yazoo and Loz. He just feels unworthy, and many people experience that at some points in their lives. Do you expect heroes to be always heroic, without weaknesses, all the time in their lives? I mean, that is the idea of his character, a hero that's actually weak with lots of flaws. But his good nature remains, then it's "good always wins against bad" kind of thing as always.

But he's never as somber/broody as he's in AC (I guess that's what everybody disliked). I'm so used to hearing new Cloud's voice from the remake, hearing him back here sounds out of place. I was sceptical at first though, but I think they made the right decision with the change. I do wish they had kept the original Sephiroth and ESPECIALLY the original Zack voice though.

3:01 this scene appears in FF7 AC O.O 6:12 haha Cloud holding Tifa. 7:00 for the unwares, Cloud promised Tifa when he was young to return and protect/save Tifa's life being a 1st class. Cloud was embarrassed that he couldnt be in 1st class because he was weak and used the helmet to not being discovered by Tifa... furthemore, he tried to protect tifa and Zack has to intervene. 8:13 this is like, if I could be shredded... dont get in soldier, you have to take steroids lol

cloud was potrayed as very weak and in the end he became stronger then everyone including sephiroth before he went god mode

He become super soldier because of that mako right? Usual person should die getting infected by mako energy like that, but Cloud survived it and thus the strongest soldier (after sepiroth) born
