He sees a hand outstretched that ends up being Tifa reaching out to him (symbolic that it was her all along) in the living world. Cloud believes that was a message from the Lifestream on how to meet Aerith again. Which would be when he dies he'll become part of the Lifestream, a Heaven analogy, where she is residing. Being that Cloud hasn't seen Aerith in a long time now, finds this information to be significant and tells Tifa. Tifa responds by holding on to him closer, eyes closed, and says "Yeah, let's go meet her." Wherever Cloud goes so will she. Tifa cares about Aerith as well so meeting her isn't a bad thing but it would mean plummeting to their death right then and there. Tifa accepts it. Cloud doesn't. He pulls them up to, relative, safety. Cloud chooses to live with Tifa instead of dying to be with Aerith. This insinuates that they'll end up seeing Aerith only after they can't prevent their death, say from natural causes. Cloud does actively choose to live in that scene implying to be with Tifa as she stated multiple times now that she will be by Cloud's side.

Imagine in Part 3 of Remake trilogy, when people try to tell Cloud that Aerith is dead he's just like 'What are you talking about, I was just talking to her! This scene has even more, though. 2 option: But what about us? Cloud: … 2 option: We could’ve make it our problem and solve it together… Cloud: … (disappears to Aerith’s church the next day) And Aerith got at least two non-optional dates in the Rebirth, sings the theme song, her date was highlighted in the latest Ultimania the most and even in Kingdom Hearts Cloud is on his way to find his light, no matter that Tifa has already offered him hers. Because he doesn’t need some second option. He needs the first ❤️

In the end of Cloud's story in Dissidia, he mentions about wanting to meet someone. At that time, people mentioned it to be Aerith. Now connecting the dots with 012, considering these events, it's much more likely he is talking about Tifa as it makes more sense in terms of story continuity. Anyways, that was a heartfelt scene and shows the extent Cloud would go to protect Tifa, just beautiful.

Yoooo - cloud should have been 10x prouder of the real story rather than the original story he told. He may have been embarrassed not to make solider, but a regular militant getting stabbed by sephiroth and him single handedly picking up the sword to throwing him off the edge is waaaaaay cooler. He did what Zach (a solider) couldn’t. I know he was affected by the mako poisoning, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if this mission was intentionally designed to be done by each of the best people within their rank.

Ff7 did the impossible. They gave the protagonist two significant and viable love interests. You could really go either way. Cloud could be in love with his childhood friend who's supported him throuought his whole life. Or he could be in love with the flower girl who taught him the meaning of humanity and helped him open his heart up to the world

Be fr, who wants to be around someone who has a real identity crisis that you aren’t fond of or are not fond enough of them that you feel a desire to love them?
