Hello Paul.Love the look of this.Lifting the canopy of the laurel helps air flow too.Its given more structure to the bush.Well done.Also,highly jealous of your shredder.Definitely need one of those.As for the garden in general,its looking groomed and colourful.Your edges are pristine.im very partial to a well clipped edge.I do hope as you stumbled backwards ,you didnt damage yourself.Isnt it great when we do the one foot dance.Hop,hop and recover.Lovely to see you as always Paul.Stay safe and well
@paultsworld
@paultsworld 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Yvonne, good point, I hadn't thought of the airflow as yet another advantage. I wouldn't be without my shredder - everything that goes through the shredder really composts well. There's a slope in the front garden and it's not the first time I've done the one-foot-lindy-hop - I'm actually quite accomplished at it - it's the stopping that's the problem 😅. Lovely to hear from you - stay safe and enjoy that super garden of yours.

What a good idea! I am going out to crown lift EVERYTHING after this! It allows opportunities for more plants at the base! Oh My Goodness Paul, your garden looks fab in Autumn, I love your Sedum Autumn Joys echoing the hydrangeas. Lovely. Have you thought of shredding the long storks of the cut down perennials that are in the compost bay already? I was astounded by your electric shredder, so quiet and up to the task. What a great educational video, thanks to Pat as well!

@paultsworld
@paultsworld 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Margaret, thank you - yes, I love the look of the sedum in Autumn. It would be ideal to shred the stalks of the perennials but often they’re too mushy and block up the shredder. The laurel was ideal because of the very woody, strong stems and the ‘crunchy’ leaves. The shredder loves that kind of stem. The shredder is a bit louder than that - I turned the audio down a bit so the music could play through it. I keep the mower away from the shredder so it doesn’t give it any ideas! 😆

So what dimension can you put thru the shredder? Is it worth the money? Do they need maintenance to keep working? I am rubbish with machines but I have huge debris piles all around my property! I love the laurel - think it worked a treat!
@paultsworld
@paultsworld 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen. I think the shredder is a really good machine to have - there are ones for all sorts of different dimensions and I wouldn't be without mine. I don't do any maintenance on it but I am careful I don't put wood that is too big or has too many soft leaves, as it can clog up. These laurel leaves were perfect - however I have just cut back my buddleia and those leaves are too soft - so I cut them off first. See what dimension branches you mostly want to shred and check out the various size shredders to see if one will suit. Once shredded it all goes on the compost. Hope that helps.

Nice work Paul! I thought this was going a different way when I heard, "lift up the skirt". :P Nevertheless, great work with the change of camera angles; it must be a pain. ***** EDIT: oh yeah...you should consider adding Chapters to your vids. ;)

Is that a Cherry Laurel?
@paultsworld

That is a very good question Sharon. It just self-seeded there and I assume it's a cherry laurel but not 100% sure

@@paultsworld Looks like it from the leaves. I have a Several Cherry Laurels the previous owners of my house planted. One is on the property line between mine and my next door neighbors house, along with a Knock Out Rose Bush that I planted on the property line. The neighbor didn’t like me trimming the dead rose buds off of the Rose Bush. He claimed it was his Rise Bush. I told him that I bought the Rose Bush, and I planted it on the property line. He claimed it was more on his side. So I moved the Rose Bush. They had done a property Survey, and we found out they own about two feet more land than we thought. So literally, two steps. I took several cuttings from the Cherry Laurel Bush, and planted it further over on my side. The whole Bush is too big for me to move on my own. I don’t like him claiming it as his. It is more on my side than his side, even after the new Survey. I will continue taking cuttings from the Cherry Laurel and propagating them. Also, it will be a nice sound barrier because they have a basketball court,. I can hear the noise outside my bedroom window.

@@sharonhainesNumber1Red Sorry to hear you’ve had a problem with the boundary line. But you have a nice big thick hedge in cherry laurel - the ideal barrier. That’s a really good idea to plant more on your side of the boundary so you have complete control over those.
