Clouds and Rainbows | Fly Fishing the Merced River, CA

After a what seems like forever, I have succeeded in catching (and landing) trout for you all to see. While I was disappointed in not catching and wild trout (as I clearly and obnoxiously state in the video), a trout is a trout and I can’t complain about catching them. It started to rain later in the outing and it seemed like the weather had brought few if no other anglers to the river. Seeing the footage, it seems the chest pack I was wearing obscured much of the fish when brought to the net, so I may try to wear the GoPro on my head time or try something different.

FYI - You missed many cause you’re setting the hook upstream when you should set the hook downstream since the fish will turn and you’re too fast to set the hook. Keep on fishing!

Yeah, I know. It's tough to not set the hook upstream when the line is downstream of you.

How far out from the park?

This is Indian Flat Campground, which is about an an hour outside the entrance to the park. It closes sometime near the end of October but there are more pull offs and parks along the river.

No it’s just hitting the bottom sometimes and registering on the indo. Trout spit out flies super quick and I don’t want to hook ‘‘em in the throat anyways
