Clouds without Water Session 1 - History of the Pentecostal/Charismatic Movement: An Overview

Justin Peters' series Clouds Without Water, is taken from a reference in the book of Jude 12 to false teachers. Specifically, Clouds Without Water is a biblical critique of the Word-Faith/New Apostolic Reformation/Prosperity gospel. The prosperity gospel essentially holds that it is always God’s will for a Christian to be wealthy and always God’s will for a Christian to be physically healed. If we struggle financially or get sick, then prosperity and physical healing are guaranteed provided that we have enough faith or sow a seed (give money) to a preacher in order to reap a harvest.

God commanded us to live a Holy and righteous life and this can only be achieved by being someone who overcomes their sins. Psalm 107:17. “Fools, because of their transgression, And because of their iniquities, were afflicted.” Know what this means? First transgression, it means an act that goes against a rule, a law or a code of conduct. Next iniquity, it means a wicked act or thing, sin. Finally, affliction, it means something that causes persistent pain or suffering. Translated it is saying that you are a fool if you do not follow God’s laws and commands and you go and sin because you will then have pain, suffering and sickness. Believers who are suffering with a sickness, a disease or a disability certainly are not comprehending what scripture is relating and this is why they have allowed sin and the devil to destroy their lives. This is why Justin Peters is nothing more then a minister for the devil and he is leading people astray with his false and misguided interpretations of scripture in order to justify why his wicked soul possesses cerebral palsy.

I was truly blessed to meet Brother Peters at the Rosedale Camp Meet Biblical workshop in Laureldale PA. This Man of God teaches the truth with no ulterior motives. The American church is so full of these unbiblical movements. A true “Christian” should carefully examine these doctrines before adhering to them. One take away I received from this teaching is that these movements are often led by people who take the glory off of God, and put it on themselves, essentially breaking the first commandment. His service - teaching about false doctrines and teachers is so important for all Christians. I was shocked whatching false teachers asking for money not caring about desperate people giving their last money to them in the hope for healing or wonders. Or about what is going on in their so called services. But after listening to the first session I read 1. Korinther 12, 4 to 11 and 28., where Paulus speaks about the gifts of the 🌺 Holy Spirit 🌺. Paulus names talking in tounges, doing miracles, prophecies an others and in vers 28 he writes about apostels. I really think that Justin Peters is a man of 🌹God🌹 with a very very import service by naming all this things helping to protect christians and open our eyes for the real gospel and the real word of 🌹God🌹, but what about Paul's writings in Korinther? We so often hear of real, organic healings, but they are always in someplace other than the tent revival! It is that odd story that the doctor cannot explain. I am sure most organic miracles are done when someone prays for someone, and a few days later something happens. Nobody makes the connection to the praying person, which is precisely how it ought to be. My Bible says they will lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. It does not say to make a big production of it. Heck, more often than not I simply shake hands with someone, and that qualifies. If God heals them, awesome! I'm under the radar! I am sure that most of the confusion on the subject of the true gift of speaking in other tongues (languages) comes from the fact that, from the second century on, people have been misidentifying gibberish with the real gift. Whether the true gift operates today is one question, well worth discussing. That it is not a prayer language, or a language of angels, is made abundantly clear in scripture. Angels always spoke to man in the individual man's own language. He that prays in an unknown tongue speaks to God not to man. But, we are told to edify others in the assembly. I think that when the Holy Spirit inspired the comment on the individual praying well, it was "tongue" in cheek, so to say. Pun included. I think God considers someone doing so privately to be harmless, albeit useless. God sees the heart, and there are saved Pentecostals, just as there are saved Baptists, I am sure you would agree. I am enjoying this presentation. It really is well done.

The point of all this watchdogging is discernment (of spirits) which is one of the gifts of the Spirit. So Cessationists are practicing the gifts. I think there were a lot of things not being taught for 1500 years or there would’ve been no need for a reformation. We must not interpret the Bible by our experiences. They "experienced" the gift of tongues ceasing in the first couple of centuries. Well, there was another thing happening. A severe lack of faith. At one point, even Paul could only count a few faithful converts who had remained faithful over time. The letters to the seven churches back this idea up. And, since Jesus could not do many miracles in Nazareth because of their unbelief, and the apostles could not cast out devils they were authorized to cast out, because of their unbelief, I think it is safe to say that, while the gift may well operate here and there from time to time, it has no resemblance to the "cross pollinators" LOL. I witnessed to a charismatic once using scripture to show him his error and the man became a child before my eyes. He studied his bible all the time but sadly he was in error with this subject. The problem is that just how far do the errors go? So if you preach a false gospel you are accursed. Good luck talking your way around what is clear in scripture. For salvation, we must follow the way they did it in Acts. They repented, were baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and received the gift of the Holy Ghost, Acts 2:38! Here's why! The gospels show what Christ has done on the cross for us. The book of Acts shows us the beginning of Christ's Church and how to enter the Church, obeying Acts 2:38. The letters were written to the Church to show us how to behave now that we are born again into the Church. It's better to walk alone than with a crowd going in the wrong direction. Are we supposed to follow the teachings of the apostles? Acts 2:42, And they continued steadfastly in the apostle's doctrines. Ephesians 2:20, We are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ being the chief cornerstone. Don't get Titus 3:5 mixed up with James 2:14-26, about WORKS. One is a WORK of your OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS OR GOOD DEEDS, and the other is a WORK OF FAITH or OBEDIENCE TO GOD. Noah believed or had FAITH, BUT THEN WORKED OR OBEYED TO BUILD THE ARK TO BE SAVED. LOT believed or had FAITH, BUT THEN OBEYED AND LEFT SODOM. This is why Jesus said, He who believes and is baptized shall be saved. We must believe and obey Acts 2:38. All scriptures have to harmonize together. 1 Corinthians 14,33, For God, is not the author of Confusion, so it wasn't him that brought all these different religions down here that brings confusion.

That is not the way the did it in the bible, you picked and chose Acts 2:38 and totally disregarded the rest of the bible. Nowhere in the scripture are you justified by any of your works, God says your works are filthy rags. You can boast that you are getting into heaven because you were obedient and was baptized which contradicts other scripture such as Ephesians 2:8-9, nothing you do justifies you or puts you in right standing with God. Jesus is not concerned with anyone audibly saying his name out loud as a means of Justification, conversely in his name means with his authority not saying it out loud. Acts 2:38 does not teach that baptism is required for salvation. While baptism is important as the sign that one has been justified by faith and as the public declaration of one’s faith in Christ and membership in a local body of believers, it is not the means of remission or forgiveness of sins. The Bible is very clear that we are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone (John 1:12; John 3:16; Acts 16:31; Romans 3:21-30; Romans 4:5; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-10; Philippians 3:9; Galatians 2:16). These scripture is just as much scripture as Acts and is just as much apart of the church as acts.

We’re not to be ostentatious, or to look down on those who are poor, absolutely, but the Bible is full of teaching about both proper adornment and, especially, REVERENCE. In all of history we dressed for particular things, including church. Suddenly looking like a slob in church is “cool,” and none of those people would dress like that in court. And they say, “man looks at the outside, but God judges the heart!” Yes, but that was about how muscular David wasn’t, not about you purposely advertising to the world that you don’t respect the assembling of the saints, or the other saints themselves, before a holy God. I don’t rebuke the slobs in my church, but let’s be clear: they choose what to wear every Sunday morning, and they pick T-shirts and shorts and flip flops when they have slacks and button shirts hanging in their closets. You’re solid, no worries! I’m just trying to nudge you a bit.

We all show a little something about how seriously - or not - we take worship when we get dressed Sunday morning. It’s not about money, or being fancy, which is the point of those passages. It’s about respect and honor, which Christians used to have. Just like modesty. If you’re so poor you can only afford the clothes on your back, great, then that’s your best! No problem! I would wonder how you have a computer or phone and internet access to comment here then, but whatever. "Tongues", what a hot topic in many places including Asia. Oddly enough, "tongues" is rooted in the fall of Jerusalem in B.C. 605-586. 1/3rd of the Jewish population was scattered among the nations. Quick Question: Didn't Jesus Christ Himself command the women (at the tomb) to go tell the disciples, and Peter, that He was risen? Did Jesus know that they were all assembled together? I would suggest to you consider what Paul says to get way better understanding. 2 Timothy 2:7 Paul was given a different Gospel for the Gentiles because Israel fell in unbelief: they rejected their Messiah. Lordship isn't necessary on our part. It comes with being born again. It's a package all inclusive deal when one gets saved by God's sovereign grace and is regenerated by God Himself. Lordship is necessary, but it's not something we do, or we muster up. It's a standard part of being regenerate.
