Loved the movie and I loved the year this movie came out, I'd kill to go back to 2008, this review is nostalgia overload.

15 years old! Still the first great movie of 2008 An ingenious combination of recorded video and some decent monster effects It's like this generation's 'Godzilla' for the viral age with hints of 'King Kong' and 'Escape from New York' Plus several years after 9/11 this permeated the American culture fearing an attack of any kind could occur It's both a love story and a monster movie that works This allows the audience to feel like spectators on the ground feeling just as confused and terrified as we are Barely running at 85 minutes yet the movie makes the most of a simple premise bringing so much needed realism to a classic giant monster tearing through the city And it works thanks to some clever editing not to mention keeping a majority of the creature hidden behind skyscrapers to have us fill in the blanks next to its mysterious origins One or two things don't make sense and the ending isn't exactly happy but Reeves and Abrams succeed making an exciting, intense thriller unlike other handheld found footage films of its kind Two follow-ups occurred but didn't exactly follow the same story rather they took similar concepts This one still stands above for very good reasons

i remember seeing this opening weekend in 08 and my only issue with it was that it was a little short but it's most definitely a Full Price for me..it's a trip how low Matt Reeves sunk only to rebound and direct this, the two dope ass Planet of the apes sequels and now Batman 2022...Matt Reeves reminds me of Carlisle..i love Double Toasted but these old spill reviews i think i love more mainly cuz DT doesn't have Carlisle, Cyrus and Co Host but especially Carlisle's crazy ass, cool though he became a screenwriter Sinister is dope and one of a very few movies that really had me creeped out..I'm checking out The Black Phone for sure

Just rewatched it. Definitely no Blade Runner, pretty unimpressive acting and the main guy Rob sucked. But good 2nd start for Matt Reeves

The kaiju stuff was awesome but most of the movie is following around the dumbest people in Manhattan. It kinda fails as a narrative
