I was born on station road in the 50s..I know and remember most of this before the changes..me and my mates used to watch the steam trains go by,and we played in the old stations before demolition..happy days..thanks for you're informative vid... excellent work.🚂

Thank you very much. It must have been exciting to see the steam trains in the cuttings around the stations :)

@@WobblyRunner we used to stand on the old bridge mostly made of wood, demolished in the late 60s or early 70s?the steam trains would run underneath and we couldn't see for steam and smoke.. amazing days.🚂👍🌞

Great video, I live in a house built on the old colliery next to the station at Clowne and keep meaning to walk on the old line but never got round to it. You've reminded me I need to get out and explore. Thanks for posting it looks better than I had imagined.

Another fine vlog! I find exploring an area's history on foot is the most rewarding way to go, with footpaths, old rail lines and canals allowing me to really immerse myself in a place. I live in The States and with international travel being so problematic these days, vlogs like yours are a lifeline to keeping my sanity. Through looking around on KZbin I've come to appreciate the beauty of the Chesterfield area. I do have ancestors from Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, so maybe it stirs something inside of me. Thanks for making these!

Great to hear from you Scott. Glad you liked the videos. Plenty more in the pipeline. We're very lucky around this way with so much history and remains on our doorstop. Stay safe!!!

Another gem of a video, you do find them don't you. That cutting was incredible especially considering where it was situated. The area seems to have had loads of different companies running lines through it, makes for great exploring now for the likes of us!! Really enjoying the channel, keep up the excellent work.

Cheers Seamus. Always love hearing from you 👍 There are some great cuttings on that line. Im going to do a video of the full line in a while where there are a few gems.

As a kid in the 80s used to visit my cousins at Clowne and walk up Boot'en Lane and over the branch line, back then looking down onto that cutting used to amaze me, especially when a train went underneath, great that they've been able to preserve it so we can enjoy it from the other perspective. I've been itching for years now to check out the cutting between Boughton Lane and the MR line, I believe there's a few gems on it even though it's quite a challenge to get to.
@WobblyRunner3 жыл бұрын
Would you say the best way up would be via the bridge from MR? I've wondered about getting on to the old trackbed. There was a gate near Boughton lane but was private no entry signs everywhere
@eggy773 жыл бұрын
@@WobblyRunner that's a possibility, although it looks a bit steep up onto it. I was hoping it was accessible from the footpath where it runs close to the cutting but I've never been along that footpath before.

Great vid and local to me too :-) Some of the tunnels you've unearthed have been future lightpainting locations for me, very useful, thanks!

That hole on the clowne and Barbrough station has been filled with a refurbished signal light. I really like what they are doing down there to make it more interesting.

Ah yes. Saw it last week. Looks great 👍. Better than the hole. 🙂👍 I hope the station stays vandalism free as they've done a brilliant job.

I went to school in Clowne (1964-71). Later I lived there for a couple of years. The old LD&ECR Station building was a bank during that period (TSB I think ).

You're right Peter. Looking at the Google Maps street view history it has had a number of roles. Nail bars and beauty salons seem to be rife these day :)

The clowne Barlborough line I remember as a kid a station been there and walking in it before the greenway existed they demolished because it was falling to bits
@WobblyRunner2 жыл бұрын
Good stuff! Shame it was in a poor state of repair.i suppose it would have been vandalised and that if it was still standing today.

Another walk for me to do. I can’t keep Up :-) thanks for the vid again. Have you considered some of those zip off short/trousers to armour up against the nettles when necessary 😀
@WobblyRunner3 жыл бұрын
Hahaha, funnily enough I have some of those. I never seem to bother taking the bottom bits with me though when I really need them. Best invention ever!!! They're not great if I run there and back though as they are a bit absorbant. 😄. I see the bites and stings as a mark of a good explore these days. I dont feel like I've worked hard enough if I'm not going through a tube of antiseptic after a trip out :)

I did this today, walking from Staveley canal basin/station to Clowne. Thanks for the inspiration! If you need some concrete sleepers for your garden there are literally hundreds in the poolsbrook area and lots of old trackbed to explore.
@psychicspies6733 жыл бұрын
PS. I missed my bus back to Staveley so had a pint in the Nag’s Head next to the old station/nail bar. An absolute treat of a pub with an amazing beer garden and very friendly landlady. Highly recommended. I assume it was the old station(s) pub.

@@psychicspies673 ah yes. Seamour junction. Hopefully doing the Clowne line to poolsbrook soon. Waiting for the undergrowth to die down a bit.
