Good idea on screwing nuts on the screw before you chuck it up, Nice Bison by the way. I went with a CVR Bullet proof cover. It has a nice o ring around the housing and came with a extra o ring. Very happy with it. Thanks for the nice video!

The big block cam button is larger than a small block button and fits snuggly, centered in place and held in by the flanges on the cam bolts. In other words you need a cam button that fits a BBC.
@michaelwonser95652 жыл бұрын
Also, the bolts need to be cleaned and installed with thread locker or they WILL come loose. Your attention to cleanliness is nice. d:-)

A locking plate is a good option as well. Manley makes a inexpensive one part # MAN-42114. Would save a lot of time not machining down some bolts that don't work for this application.

Great video! I have a question regarding the timing chain cover installation. My motor is already installed in my Chevelle, and I’m hoping I can change the cover without having to drop the pan. I have a big block 496. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Thanks for the nice comment on the video... I have seen timing covers taken off and installed back without removing the oil pan, so it can be done.... They lossen the front and side bolts and pry down the pan... But I myself have not done it... Good luck on your install....

You are an amazing machinist I love watching you work great job as always. Questing I'm going to be putting the same timing cover on my 434 Stroker. Alot of reviews I read about it they say the back of the cover needs to be milled some to fit correctly. Did you run into this problem?

Thanks for the nice comment... The cover I got seemed to be flat, and fit well...

Hi when installing time chain on the SBC it's dot to dot with #1 at TDC? Then rotate until both dots at 12 O'clock and that's when you are ready to drop distributor? Just wanted to ask I'll be doing this to my Nova.
@Myersmetalworks2 жыл бұрын
Never have tried 12 O'clock for the distributor drop in... Sounds pretty neat.... The timing chain dot-to-dot sounds right...When I drop the distributor in, I rotate the engine and watch the rocker arms on #1 cyl when I see the intake valve closing, I can put thumb over the spark plug hole and feel pressure, I look for the top dead center mark on the harmonic balancer and align the marks, then I drop the distributor in with the rotor button pointing to #1 plug wire.... Hope this helped...

Just a respectful question, but why use a button when your block will accept a cam retention plate? If you mentioned that i missed it and sorry in advance.
@Myersmetalworks7 ай бұрын
We ordered parts for the year engine it was, and these are the parts that came and used.... On older blocks (I think) the plate was for revers rotation engines...

I have a question for you buddy my timing kit came with a Thrust bearing is it necessary or can I just put the cam sprocket directly up against the engine block thanks
@Myersmetalworks4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ken... At least the ones I've installed, the spacer or Thrust bearing needs to be used for alignment of the bottom sprocket on the crankshaft and the top sprocket on the cam... I use a straight edge with out the timing chain installed to check the alignment between them... For me its always best practice to follow the manufacturer's instructions on the install... Hope this helped.... 👍

How has this cover worked out for you? I’m going from a solid roller cam to hydraulic roller cam and this cover seems like a good choice for how to deal with the cam button without having a piece of equipment to measure the cam end play
@Myersmetalworks2 жыл бұрын
Hi jeff.... I like the cover and how they say in the instructions on how to set the cam end play, but I have not run the engine with it and don't have any input on how well it works...

I saw the block had two holes for a retainer on the cam. It was I mistaken. I have a 75 vintage I am putting together. Button or retainer is the question

Why not use the bolts that came with the motor saved a lot of time
@Myersmetalworks3 жыл бұрын
Hi David... I had just bought the block not the whole motor, and I like the ARP product... Most of these older engines have been worked on over the years, and some of the nut and bolts aren't always the right ones or have been rounded off... But your right, if everything is in good shape it would save a lot of time....😃

I prefer the stud kit over those cap screws myself anyway. Those just make it look strait from China which it may be I don't know. I like the cover though and that adjustment for endplay is a nice touch.
