Very honestly speaking, as someone who has used Mercedes-Benz since over 40 years ago, i must say the standard of the interior styling in the newer generation of Mercedes-Benz has gone DOWN or WORSE i.e. is not up to the same standard as those in the late 80 to 90's generation which i still have to regard & PREFER over practically all the newer models which came later !! Unfortunately i simply cannot 'like' the looks of the newer generation interior especially instrumentation panel design & looks anymore from most of their designs after year 2003 era i.e. when Chrysler influence i suppose, came into the picture ! There used to be a saying that 'design grows on you' BUT unfortunately even after looking at almost all their newer models from over the recent past 15 years, i still right now (in year 2017) CANNOT 'accept' their design styling approach especially of the interior dashboard !!!! Therefore I'll say its high time they allow for greater customisation in the dashboard design in all their new models ! What i mean is e.g. someone who wants no chrome trimming around the dials, don't like the circular air vents prefer rectangular instead (like in the W124 classic great looks !), don't like that stupid looking screen which looks as if someone just stuck a tablet right in front of your nose on the dashboard !!----horrible design thinking i have to state unfortunately---where have the 'standard' gone to ?!?! As if they can't integrate that centre screen more unobstrucively into the centre console design instead ?!? Nowadays they tend to use big display screens on the dash (no more physical analog gauges) which that's good but might as well then allow the customer to select their own preferred virtual instrument gauge layout, appearance even down to how the needle looks & the colour of it as well as display illumination colour control----i want it warm-white with amber needles like in the 'good-old' W124/210 generation that's what i mean--if able to program that into the software to display that way then ok, it can then overall still be 'quite acceptable' these new generation models for 'old thinkers' like myself who would then find it less unacceptable or distasteful to go for their newer models. As far as i'm concerned, the price is not necessarily the factor. Faced with a choice between a brand new model which i simply don't like or cannot 'accept' the dashboard styling etc. versus even a old model like W124 or 210 of which i'm far more in overall 'agreement' with the way of it's design & looks, chances are i'll still PREFER to settle for the old model despite the potential costs & difficulties of having to 'renovate' an older car to get it back closest to it's 'new standard' ...end of the day the overall cost maybe the same as getting a new model but at least in a updated older model which i can like (versus a new model which i simply have quite great difficulty liking !) i cannot think of a better way out, especially when most other makes don't appeal that much to me ?!
