I’m from Europe, and owned countless Mercedes models , from 70’s w116 to 2015 S550 and 2013 GLK 350 which I own now … you don’t need a warranty, what you need is to make sure it was owned by some retired elderly people who serviced it regularly and kept it in their garage .. pull Carfax , stay away from AMG , those are hot rods and were driven hard … also make sure you have few grand on the side for emergency repairs … I have credit card dedicated only to my S550 , and if it needs something , it gets fixed right away … take care of your Benz , and it will run a long time …

These older Benzes are really tempting because of the amount of car you get for the money. As long as it has good detailed service history and everything checks out good on the test drive then you're golden. Still keep a $3000 "just in case" fund. I follow that rule with my MB and it too is 10 years old and running solid. Great review as always.

I just got rid of my 2013 version of this same car and bought a Cadillac ct5 sport. The cls had 88000 miles when I turned it in. I have also owned two BMW 750li’s. The cls550 is no joke to maintain. Although cheaper maintenance than my 750s, as this car aged, stuff just broke. Also the most annoying part was that the plastic button coverings just started to rub/come off. I got an estimate from Mercedes on the cost to replace just the buttons on the steering wheel, they came back with $950! In my last year of ownership, I sunk $7700. The estimate for the next repair was 2800 which would have brought my costs for the year to over $10K. Although I loved the car, I got rid of it. So remember if you buy a used car, the maintenance is not used!

Mine has 170k and it’s still chugging along beautifully! Major problems I’ve had so far since I bought it at 117k back in 2019 was water pump. I have changed CV axils and some bushings. The air compressor went out at 165k but only a 430 dollar fix. I also started to get a skip in the trans and it ended up needing an additive which fixed the problem. It cost about 700 to swap fluid and add the additive. Other than that nothing has happened. Just took it on a 2k mile road trip and it did great. I have heard that after 215k miles or so the turbos go out and you might as well at that point replace the whole motor so that’s something to think about my mechanic said it would be about 3500 for the turbos and they have to drop the motor to install them which is about 4k so 7500 to replace turbos or for around 10 to 11k you can just get a new motor installed with turbos on it.

@feszty2 жыл бұрын
Sure, it isn't a bad deal. As long as you don't mind the $500+ oil changes and $1500+ brake jobs. It's all about the maintenance cost. I had a BMW 650i and after 80k miles it started to consume oil and started to smoke. This was due to the valve stem seal issue that is a common problem for the N62 engine and I was quoted $6000 to repair it.
@MeynMotorGroup2 жыл бұрын
Yup maintenance costs more and warranties don’t cover maintenance. Independent shops help
@harisjessani8062 жыл бұрын
Homie whoever charged you 500 for a oil change just played you pretty bad. Yes the parts and labor is a little more expensive since these are quality parts and the labor is limited so (supply and demand) basically. Your oil change should not cost you more than 150 and most times that would include the filters
@basmatic_rice Жыл бұрын
I don't understand why one would take a car like this to a dealership outside of warranty instead of a reputable shop that's experienced working with Mercedes cars. My oil changes are like $140 for this max. Brakes are well under 1k..

One word: Arnott. Maintain your factory air suspension cost effectively without converting to a crappy passive system which requires installing resistors and messing with the computer to eliminate error codes. @MeynMotorGroup2 жыл бұрын

Hey Kevin, Great video as always. I’m a little late haha. I love the ‘M278’ motor from Mercedes. It has a lot of power, AMG-Like, but less expensive to maintain than the full blown AMG. I purchased my M278 E 550 last July with only 37,500 miles. I have an ear to ear smile every time I drive it. It is a rocket ship. I could tune it and be almost just as fast as the M157 engine, which is the 63 counterpart that is based off of the M278. Me personally, I would stay away from the 2012/2013. There was more improvements made to the 2014+ M278. A lot of the kinks were worked out, but by no means is the 14+ perfected. I have put almost 10k miles since purchase and worry free so far! Fingers crossed.

Definitely showing it's age, & that one doesn't look like it was cared for very well, I'd take a pass...But what I would opt for instead (wish you could get your hands on one) is a Lincoln Continental Black Label...There's one in Houston TX for $40K with 56K miles...I think the Stinkin' Lincoln holds it's own in the Lux car market although it is just a 6 banger but puts out a respectable 400HP...CHEERS!

Agreed this is a rough one which is why it’s so cheap ($60k off MSRP) but yea always wanted to try a Lincoln Continental any model really

To be honest I've heard some warranties are not worth the paper they are written on. Not necessarily the case with this car, and not sure if it applies so much in USA, but something to keep in mind...
@MeynMotorGroup2 жыл бұрын
You’re absolutely right there’s a lot I would stay away from. I’ve had a great experience with Hendrick AutoGuard Warranty they covered everything on my modified Acura TSX. Of course going to a Mercedes dealer and getting their warranty if possible is the best but certain cars may not qualify and if it does might cost more but that’s always the best bet. Cary Imports works with a company called Penn I believe to warranty high mileage cars like this. Any certified mechanic can apparently work on the car

Hello sir my name jaime I look forward on buying one of these for financing sometime this week. I have been searching for 3 weeks 2012 mercedes cls550. I've been looking at 95k 100k miles going for 21k-22,899$ My question is? You think by taking care of the car and do maintenance every 3 months or when needed do you think it can last to 200k miles and are these cars known to last a long time? Thanks

Do you think this car is worthy of collection? I found one with the same model same year with only 50,000 miles on it priced around $22,000. I don't actually need another car for daily driver now, but I am kind of stunned by the beauty of this car when I looked at it. I am thinking about getting it and just let it sit in my garage (may drive it once a week) until some rich V8 Mercedes-Benz fan is willing to offer any price I ask for as collection. Do you think it's a good idea?

@MugatuJag2 жыл бұрын
Of course it’s a beautiful car, and no offense but that one does not look like it was taken care of very well, yes it looks like freeway miles, but wow the hood and the front bumper look like they have been sandblasted. I’m surprised that Detailer did not even polish the headlights they can make them look better in under 10 minutes…
@MeynMotorGroup2 жыл бұрын
Yea this is not a clean one hence the price but between 30-40k you can get much cleaner ones and lower miles
@MugatuJag2 жыл бұрын
@@MeynMotorGroup Yeah you can definitely do some chip repair and make it look a lot better. This is a perfect example of why a car in this price range and most cars in general should definitely get PPF film installed👌💯 Great Review

Would you get a CLS 550 or an Audi S7, which do you think is more comfortable, faster etc?

CLS feels faster but the Audi is a significantly higher quality vehicle to sit in and their interiors age better because it’s better put together get a warranty with either

This the wheels I'm looking for I want the CLS 63 AMG but my uncs said the CLS 550 IS mad by itself which is true it's still a Biturbo V8 you can tune it and get safely 480- maybe 515 BHP if you want more bower just upgrade parts and keep maintenance at the 500-600 mark you'll be fine on that note I'm not sure I could look this up but I'd rather talk to like minded folk, CLS 550 has a 4matic variant and is the 4matic variant still a Biturbo V8 again I know this information is online but I rather talk with my fellow Mercedes Benz lovers And which would you think is the best bang for the dollas and on the account of me liking when my uncle takes off on other cars 👀👀 in his Biturbo V6 4matic
