Just found your channel yesterday and am really enjoying it. My husband and I have been married 54 years and we are 73 and 76. It is so nice to see another loving couple. As you grow old together you take care of each other when the need arises. Our days are similar..day trips, shopping, going out to lunch, dinner and cooking together at home. Calvin, this meal looks delicious. If you will put your greased cast iron pan into the oven and let it get hot before putting your cornbread mix in it, you will get delicious brown crust on the bottom of your cornbread.

Its so good seeing you both sit down and enjoy a good down home meal together. Growing up some of my favorite meals were fresh from the garden feasts.We all would work most the day in the yard, especially the garden then gather wharever needed picking and put it together that night. We didnt usually serve meat, it wasnt needed with tomatoes, cukes, green beans, and either zukini, or corn on the cob. If it was early enough in the evening we cooked up beets and their greens with walla walla sweets and bacon or swiss chard cooked the same way. The best food in the world!❤❤❤

I'm only 7:48 minutes into the video and this meal is looking delicious. Love the beginning of the video watching you two enjoy the yummy meal together. Cornbread is one of my Dad's favorites. He liked his sweet with sugar. It's called Johnny Cake. He'd soak big hunks of it in iced cold milk and eat it with a fork. I miss my Dad and making it for him. My husband left me when I was 26 (in the last 90’s) I had just had a lesion on my pancreas removed so most of my stomach was removed. To this day I can hardly eat much but your food always looks delicious so maybe that’d help my appetite. I wish I’d had someone to look after me the way you look after Marie. Good Southern meal. I love butter beans. I like your table cloth and place mats. Gorgeous towels you were sent. I like those Glory products too. I add a little vinegar to those greens. Margaret Holmes is good too. I do like her butter beans. Ever since I saw you add oil to potatoes for the microwave I have started doing that too and it does help the skin not dry out.

I also cook in a cast iron skillet. Preheat your skillet and when its good and hot, sprinkle some dry cornmeal in the bottom of it. My cornbread comes out brown and crunchy.

Glad to see Miss Marie is feeling better. I went back to neurologist and I kept telling the doctor I need to head back home before it gets dark because it’s hard for me to see the exits and medians but he had me go over the hospital to do some tests but the ER was packed I waited a hour and a half still nothing so I got up and left. I may have to get my primary doctor to send me to neurologist closer home. That trip alone was exhausting I can’t physically do to more trips like that I’ve been so tired since. Looks good Mr. Calvin. Pray for me & I will to pray God’s blessings on you & Miss Marie

Calvin, you can heat your skillet in the preheating oven, then after mixing your batter, add the mixture to the hot skillet. It'll make a sizzle sound. That gives you a nice brown crust. I use shortening as butter may burn in the preheating stage. Try that sometime and see if you like it! (I see someone already suggested this and it really is good!)

That looks like a wonderful and easy meal. I will definitely try the paper-towel method for microwave potatoes! We use both Glory and Margaret Holmes brands of collard greens, seasoned cabbage and butter beans. Glory and Margaret Holmes are both owned by McCall Farms, a family-owned company that produces Southern-style food. We find them very similar in flavor and equal in quality. I would have buttered my potato, mashed it up with my fork and put my creamed corn on top. I love creamed corn over mashed potatoes!

Grease your cast iron pan and throw it in the oven when you preheat the oven then pull the pan out and dump your cornbread mix into the sizzling pan and bake 450 for 20 minutes, makes the most perfect dark crust on your cornbread
