Off topic, but through a 20th century lense am AMAZED at how much touching Donahue does of his female audience members and guests. At the time, he was considered this wonderful male ally of feminism, but the hand-holding and hugging seems to be REALLY getting in their space without consent. On topic, you look fabulous, James St. James.

The fact that the host says "do you let black people in?" Just shows how much of a backward thinker he is. This video is old and the scene is now more or less completely underground, from most mainstream media anyways .(obviously new media still keeps it alive, I follow the club kids on Facebook) but because of the extreme sudden outburst of it in the New York club scene it did shock everyone, being shocked by change is normal but it's acceptance that wasn't made, because we've began to fear change rather than accept it. At the end of the day people should be, and rightfully so, free to dress, look, decorate and express themselves in whatever way they choose. And why bother arguing over stupid comments by anti gay anti expressive anti artists anti club kid, morons who clearly got some sort of intrigue and therefore watched this video but just had to say something fucking idiotic about it because of their own standards and fears. By arguing back we feed they're insecurities. Having an argument in a KZbin comment section is as useful as a chocolate fucking teapot. Long live free spirits, long live fabulous clothes, long live glitter and sequins and long live the club kids! Peace x

lady gaga is being discussed because she is from new york and has been very open about the fact that the club kids have inspired her in many ways mainly her style..... no club kids... no gaga & how is she ripping them off ? shes is giving them credit she is sending pretty much the same message to a newer audience. im pretty sure they all are very happy about the fact they inspire one of the biggest pop icons right now!!!!!

@babygaga4421 You could also say that the Club Kids "ripped-off" the Celebutantes (James St. James WAS a Celebutante before he was a Club Kid), and you could also say that the Celebutantes "ripped-off" Warhol's Factory Superstars. Gaga taking style tips from Club Kids, Celebutantes, etc., and making music statements that could be likened to Madonna, it's just her expressing her art in the age that she's living in, which has been influenced by all that's come to pass before.
@arturocas9012 жыл бұрын
Answer from IMDB "Party Monster" trivia: The "Club Kids" were a real group of people in the 1980s, young people (usually twenty five was considered too old) who would go to clubs and make themselves into celebrities with bizarre antics and self-styled images. The Club Kids made their entire livings based on the fact that they were Club Kids - party organizers, club owners, and talk show hosts paid them obscene amounts of money simply to show up and party.

While their main idea of expressing themselves and be whoever they wanted to be is a positive message...after watching "Shockumentary", the craziness of the drugs and gross-out shock nature of their parties is just NOT, it's twisted, sick and that's something they NEVER talked about on these shows they appeared... Indeed, the looks are not the problem, it's great!...what was behind all that was the main problem and look how it ended...with the death of one of their own.

i like how "the club kids" try to validate what they do and make it seem like it's all just innocent fun and games. anyone catch Donahue asking if "black people" are allowed to get into the clubs, like it's 1959 or something and the most shocking part is that the clubs are not segregated. way to stay on top of the issues there Donahue.
