Vernon "Mad Max" Maxwell was/is certainly a character and he's also right about Drazen Petrovic too. If HE got in the zone it was going to be a long night for someone. That's for sure. Even His Airness got lit up by Petrovic a couple of times too and it drove Mike to the brink of insanity. Petro was indeed scary good and was only getting better. But yes, let's talk Defense. Good topic. 1987-1988 Defensive Player Of The Year: Michael Jordan. That season MJ became the very first player in NBA history to record over 100 blocked shots (only 6 centers in the entire league had more blocked shots than MJ) and 200 steals in a single season. Hakeem Olajuwan became the SECOND player to ever do it two years later and Scottie Pippen became the third player to do it the following season after Olajuwan. Truly ALL remarkable achievements. But what is even more remarkable is that MJ did it.... twice.... and as a GUARD. Think about that for a second. As a guard. No player has yet to match that ridiculous NBA record and it still remains, but here we are nearly 40 years later and MJ, Olajuwan and Pippen remain to be the only one's do have ever done it----- and that's just ONE time. But two times? It may be a long time before we ever see the likes of MJ again.

Prior to his tenure with the Nets, I remember Drazen when he was with Portland and I knew the moment he played, he was going to be special and when he went to New Jersey, the rest is history. Arguably one of the best European player in basketball history.
