I don't know why they don't have the Split option in this game. For those unaware, if your two cards are of the same rank (A-A, 3-3, 8-8), you can split them into two separate hands by placing an extra bet. When it comes to Blackjack, you never split Fours, Fives, Tens, or Faces (it doesn't count if you have J-Q, J-K, or Q-K), but you always split Aces (though you generally get only one card if you split Aces) or Eights.

So when I was younger I played a tamer version of Blackjack with my family and used things like Matchsticks for the chips. We called it Pontoon and it had a couple of additional rules. 1) If you were dealt a 10 and an Ace in your beginning hand, you declared it immediately and it was the second best thing you could get. 2) If you managed to get a hand of 5 cards which totaled 21 or less, that was called a 5 card trick and was the best you could do.

This is one of very few card games I know how to play confidently, and that's thanks to tons of rounds for in-world currency on gaia online when I was in my early teens. Blackjack may have a big luck factor, especially when it comes to doubling down, but it's also easy to keep track of your totals and bet safely when you are playing in a group it seems. You could only do a single player against the dealer in the context I learned in. Masae and Jon both did pretty well.

It's possible that the card game name "Blackjack" isn't trademarked, which then would be the reason Nintendo kept it, while names like "Uno" is, thus it got renamed "Last Card".

Masae gambles the same way my dad does :) He considers his starting cash the fee he pays for an evening of entertainment, and if he ends up taking anything home then great. That's a healthy way to do it.

That's exactly how I look at it!! It's just entertainment, and it's a fee for that. The amount I spend is just how much I want to have fun with friends/family. I expect to go home with absolutely none of it left haha
