Masae: "It's just like Wordle!" Jon, trying to suppress his feelings of being old: "Sssssure, let's go with that." Also, there isn't any name they could come up with better than "Hit and Blow"?

They mention in the video that it is usually called "Mastermind", but since that's likely trademarked, they had to use something else.

@@c0mf0rta61ynum6 The usual copyright-friendly term I see for the game is "Code Cracker" or something along those lines. "Hit and Blow" sounds both unnecessarily dirty and muddles the terminology of the game.

I sometimes forget how much I love watching Jon play games. Need to catch his streams more often. And like him, I've always liked clue and deductive games I love this series so much too. Glad to see it back. Look forward to any further entries into the series. Is it just me or do the pegs look like marbles?

This was a fun and almost nostalgic episode as my brother got Mastermind when we were small and we played it a lot. I think we stopped when I used all the same colors once and he hurt his pride...

I remember that the last time I spent extensive time in MAGFest's board game room, there was a Mastermind there. I bet you'll find some willing players with you if you want to try that then. I've developed a strategy that is guaranteed to work within 9 tries (to always beat Mastermind's classic provided ten). A mathematician has actually proven that it's possible to beat in 5 tries every time, as well. I was first introduced to this concept not with Mastermind, but with a "final boss"-esque puzzle in ClueFinders Reading Adventures, an edutainment game about improving reading and word skills. This final boss was basically Wordle, except you were NOT told which letters were in the right and wrong places, like how this game doesn't tell you which peg is in the right and wrong spot. It gave me a ton of trouble as a small child, but as an adult, it fascinated me and gave me a good start at Wordle, too.

I feel like the reason the game was set up in this turn-based system is that they didn't want to make it so one player is just passively existing the whole round while the other player is doing everything, especially in an online context. I understand why you would be disappointed the option isn't there at all, but that's the logic I see from it.

I mean, Mastermind came before Wordle, but she's not wrong. IIRC, real Mastermind is a 4 peg combination.

Well, now I gotta try this the next time I boot up Clubhouse Games. Looks interesting and fun enough. I totally believe Jon is the kind of person to set up all of the same color in real Mastermind just to mess with his friends. Heck, I would do that at least once.
@elenna1237

14:20 Yep, a 50-50. It could have been either yellow-red-green-green or red-blue-green-green. I also love Mastermind, although the problem for me and my sister is that we take 5+ minutes per turn to look through every previous guess and check every possibility and make absolutely sure our guesses don’t contradict anything, and in the meantime the other person is just sitting there bored to death. (And my copy of Mastermind has 4 pegs per code just like this, but 8 colours instead of 6.)

I imagine the multiplayer player change was for one of three reasons: 1: The default way of playing this game doesn't have the "Mastermind" do anything after the game start. This method keeps people engaged the whole time. 2: This way two players can play on the same screen with no chance of screen cheating. 3: They didn't want to be sued for being too similar to Mastermind. Would have been nice to have it as an option, but oh well; not like this game is ever being updated at this point.
@Tyler-sy7jo
@Tyler-sy7jo 2 жыл бұрын
The first two reasons are probably likely. If they made it play exactly like Mastermind, they likely wouldn't get sued as you can't copyright game mechanics or rules.

Being honest I don’t know how to play the game because if the right color and is in a correct position it be correct but need to make it arrangements but now different color as all white? If it’s red for first time then now different color change and it all white? What is going on?
@argentum1738
@argentum1738 2 жыл бұрын
If you get an orange peg, that means one of the colors is correct and in the right position. If you get a white peg, that means one of the colors is correct but in the wrong position. If in a previous guess you had an orange peg but then a white peg in the next guess, that means you moved the correct peg to the wrong spot. If that orange peg goes away, that means you removed the correct peg from the guess. Oh, I should mention that the position of the orange and white pegs are not correlated to the position of the colors in your guess. Example, getting orange/orange/white/blank does not mean the first two colors are correct and the third is in the wrong spot (there are versions of Master Mind that is like this but that's not how Hit & Blow work). They tell you how many are correct, how many are in the wrong position, and how many are just wrong.
@danielnegrete3040
@danielnegrete3040 2 жыл бұрын
That’s true but there something bothering me. 4:58 you can see one is correct for the orange but for some other reason at 7:45 when he change it That one color in the previous was correct but when he change it into that it a different change. Now I know the white is the correct color but need to change but why is red the correct color and correct position but then a different answer?
