Neither have a Superbowl ring, but Steve Smith Sr.'s career in my opinion was far more prolific than Andre's career was. I get Devin Hester because of what he done as a return specialist, and Demarcus Ware because of what he did on the defensive side of the ball, but Andre Johnson? Over Steve Smith Sr? Extremely smart and articulate guy. Always loved watching him play because he was so tenacious. He had something a lot the recievers in today's game don't have which is that D A W G factor. I used to think my perfectionism was the only reason I struggled to listen to my recordings too, Mr. Smith Sr. Hello Mr. Sharpe and Mr. Smith Sr. I have immeasurable respect for the way you've both inspired me as an athlete and a man. I don't know that you'll ever read this. But, when I heard you both speak about speech challenges, I connected with you. I still have words I cannot pronounce right to this day and have been doing public speaking in some way since I was 14ys old. Part of the challenge in listening back to our recordings is a psychological phenomenon I'm sure you both know called "cognitive dissonance." Not just the insecurities of society judging us for messing up words (something I still do regularly on shows). And this is because when we talk, we hear our voice from outside AND from inside our heads. It has a different sound than what everyone else only hears outside. When you hear the recording, your mind tells you that the "you" that's talking isn't "you" because it sounds weird. I found that was making me cringe more than the fear of people judgment me. It was my own perfectionism judging me. The solution is the same process you guys followed playing the game. Reps. If you listened to all your shows on repeat for 3hrs, the voice you hear on the recording will eventually blend with the voice you hear inside your head. The cognitive dissonance will eventually go away and it may become much easier to listen and evaluate yourself going forward. I learned this on accident during my years as a musician listening back to my recordings with bands so I could improve my act. TLDR: You will eventually get used to the voice you are hearing. And, the cringe you are feeling will go away if you go hard listening to a ton of your own works. I hope this works for you guys like it worked for me. If not, just please be blessed knowing you both have blessed another man greatly.

Like when he talk about learning himself at this age. Man I say the same thing and I’m 48. It’s started at 40. That’s when I started to learn the true meaning of being a family man. And now we need to teach the younger me. How to be this way at a younger age. That’s what I try to do

Steve Smith Sr. Is NO DOUBT a First-Ballot Hall of Famer. A 16-Year career (13-years of which spent in Carolina which made him the #1 best Panther of all time. He was the first player to be enshrined in the Panthers Hall of Honor (a new program instituted by new owner David Tepper). Steve is the heart of the Panthers, he still lives in Charlotte and has multiple business and charities located in his buildings in uptown Charlotte. The entirely of NC/SC LOVE him. As far as his stats…5x Pro Bowler (4x Pro Bowler as a WR & 1x Pro Bowler as a Punt/Kickoff returner as a ROOKIE…totaling 5 Pro Bowls). He was also a 3x All-Pro WR (2x 1st Team All-Pro & 1x 2nd team All-Pro). Named NFL Comeback Player of the year in 2005 after recovering from two sever injuries including a badly broken forearm and partially torn MCL. Named to the PFWA (Pro Football Writers of America) All-Rookie team in 2001. And BY FAR THE MOST IMPRESSIVE STAT ANY WR CAN EVERR ACHIEVE is the elusive and nearly impossible TRIPLE CROWN in 2005…where Steve led the NFL in 1)Receiving Yards, 2)Receiving Touchdowns & 3)Total Receptions. No other player has Done that since and that was nearly 20 years ago!!! First ballot Hall of Famer for sure.

Loved this interview. I’m a Falcons fan but always thought Steve Smith Sr. was a next-level, high-octane receiver. My only critique of this interview is that Shannon gets so excited he didn’t always let Steve finish his answer/thoughts before asking him another question. I enjoyed this interview nonetheless.
