I think the reason Cher's dad never got rid of Josh was because he wanted Josh in Cher's orbit because he thought the two would make a good match, that's why I think he was pleased when Josh went after Cher to go to that party. This movie is actually insanely brilliant. There's so much stuff you miss at first and then catch on to later. Like the maid hiding behind a door when Cher's arguing with her dad about the orange juice in the kitchen, and you just see her pinafore and apron sticking out. And the delayed, off-camera crash into some bikes or garbage cans or something after Cher pushes a dude off her. Shakespeare references. The girl who appears to be using a marker on her lips, another with a bandage on her nose in reference to the popularity of nose jobs in California. Love this movie!
