Seeing a sandaled foot step into frame almost looked like foreshadowing in a horror movie. Glad there were no violent kickbacks!

I always put in a bamboo barrier no matter the variety. Their world stops @ the barrier. However, I foolishly put a old Hamii bamboo where it has full southern exposure. So that one will have to be moved. As I don’t like the bleached look. I was thinking I could dig it out with a shovel. I was very wrong.

@@benlabarre8072 Very wise on the barrier! Pete Kanaris in FL mentioned the vast importance of a barrier for clumping bamboo and ever since hearing that, I install one at the time of planting. Oldhamii is an even bigger beast. Hope the removal goes smoothly with a saw.

@@EnlightenmentGarden You could put a Medjool date palm there. They go back to the times of Noah.

That's a good idea using a reciprocating saw. I will use that on an old fuji apple stump. Bamboo looks like work. Happy New Year, Natasha. 🐓🎉🎇

It was a lot of work even with the right tools; glad to see the project end. Happy New Year!

Excellent idea using a reciprocating saw. I sure loved the look of the Buddha Belly bamboo. The Graceful bamboo that you recommended for my small space is sending up new shoots. Can’t wait to see how much it grows this year. I did put in 18 inch bamboo barrier just to be safe. Oh, I did decide to keep my Flavor Delight Aprium rather than replace it with another orange tree. This will be its second Spring. My Cara Cara tree is growing nicely and gave me plenty of oranges. When I purchase some mango fruit this summer I’ll plant some polyembryonic varieties. Will rewatch your mango videos to see which ones are growing well for you. Going to put my Nam Doc Mei in a pot and use that spot for a more vigorous growing variety. Obviously one that also tastes good to me. Thanks again for your tip on the Graceful bamboo variety. After watching this clip you definitely saved me a lot of future work! 😅

You are welcome! I definitely want to save someone from making the mistakes I have. My fastest growing mango varieties to date have been Cotton Candy, Sweet Tart, Lemon Meringue and Keow Savoy. Growing your own seedlings will be rewarding! Happy almost 2025!

Are you going to relocate the bamboo, or is it just aggressive a grower where you are? I was dying looking at that root system. It's just crazy how big it is. Great video.
@EnlightenmentGardenАй бұрын
To your point, I could have potted up the root divisions or relocated them but I'm opting not to. These will be going to someone else that can use them. The sections I cut weigh about 50lbs each! The root system is very intense and this form of bamboo wants a good 20-30' space to canopy out. I just don't have that space in my yard anymore. Unfortunately I did not know the growth habit when I planted it.

@@EnlightenmentGarden You could offer them up for sale. I have a half acre in the back and am certainly willing to see if I can make it grow.

@@keithswalley5340 Thanks for the suggestion! While not suitable for my garden, the root divisions were spoken for before this video posted. I should have mentioned that in the video. A nice large space is rare; happy growing!

I want to plant graceful bamboo as a wind break for my fruit trees but been reading that they will choke out fruit trees. What’s the closet you think it will be safe to plant bamboo to a fruit trees?
@EnlightenmentGarden5 күн бұрын
20' maybe. I personally would put in at least a 1' root barrier to play it safe and head off any issues. When I planted the bamboo in this video, I did not use a barrier and the feeder roots invaded 10'+ out from the clump in any direction there was water. For more recent plantings, I sunk in a 12" high piece of galvalume edging (Dakota Tin) around each of my clumps. The also sell bamboo barriers made out of polyethylene which runs a little higher on cost.

I’m in the Phoenix area. If you’re selling those, I’d love to buy them.
