Extreme budget build 1981 Silverado #9. Finishing body work and priming. Rust repair on door.

I bought a 1981 Silverado that was a neglected, abandoned project. In this video I fix all dents, dings and body work and put it in primer. I repair a major rust hole in passenger door and use POR15 on the rusty bed floor.

Pleased to see you made a nice metal patch repair on the door corner. Also think that is a good idea to put the bed rails back on. That’s a definite old school accessory touch. Good luck mixing the dark maroon color from scratch. Hope you mix enough to get the job done. Thats the best color choice with the red. That said, black could work too as well.

Lee, one day, could you line up all your Completed Cars and do a show on them? I counted 12 or so. 2 Chevelles, 3 El Caminos, a GTO, Lemans, 2 Novas, an Aspen, and 2 Corvettes. You also have 2 Jeep Grand Cherokees, an Avalanche and a couple pickups. It’d be really cool to see them all lined up, have you talk about your favourite car (it’s a tie between your Lemans & the Nomad), as well as the good, bad and ugly. You don’t wet sand primer, it is porous and acts like a sponge.

I got a question. Back about 35 years ago I used gel stripper to remove paint on a car I had. Is that still done? Pros and cons? I imagine it’s probably expensive nowadays.

You would have to really clean it afterwards or the stripper would mess up the new paint job, I prefer not even using it at all.

One con is you really need to clean all of it off or it will ruin the paint job. Plus you can't just rinse it down the drain. Some people will get it dipped by a professional. Sarah and tuned another you tuber used stripper on one of her projects recently. The V8 Celica I believe. That might have more info.

The stripper nowadays isn't 💩 compared to the old stuff. To much environmental crap. Better off sanding it off with 80 grit then 180 then prime. Sand primer with 400 and paint. 😉✌
