Cluster Bomb Vs. Car and Steel Barrels

Why cluster bomb / cluster munition is so effective but also terrible? We decide to test this in our explosion park with traditional explosive / artillery shell and 25 cluster munitions. Targets were car, steel barrels and some drywall. How much there is shrapnel damage from both explosives? Which one is more dangerous and why cluster bombs can be really problematic in real life?
Definitely don't try this at home or any where else! All test were done by professionals in safe environment.

All bombs can are bad, all bombs can fail to explode.. The issue with cluster bombs is, not the type you are using, BUT when they are loaded with "Area Denial" sub-munitions.. basically dropping a anti personnel minefield.. these are the ones that truly suck, just waiting for some kid to play football.. to their credit, some do have "time out" self neutralize after a certain time... The lack of penetration from the smaller BBs is why explosives are often used in series. In WWII it was FAB to blow the roofs of houses, followed by incendiary to light the rest on fire. Similar effects can be gained today from a FAB or conventional to crack the hard targets, followed by cluster, AP or WP rounds for soft targets.

U.S. military bomb-disposal specialists are trained to exercise extreme caution in places where cluster weapons have been used, and to expect that about 20 percent of all submunitions, regardless of the country of origin, will fail to explode.

The failure rates of bomblets are dependant on several different things, including type and age. Many of them are set off basically in the same way as a good old fashioned revolver, with a dropping "hammer", only its not even spring loaded, its purely driven by the bomblet hitting the ground. Bit too soft ground and they wont be set off. Shrubs and they wont be set off. Many also also have a streamer keeping the pin pulled out during the fall of the bomblet, which can get stuck in trees and now you have a spicy christmas tree ornament dangling off a branch in the forrest... These bomblets can also be very sensitive and a pain in the ass to remove without just blowing them up in place.

“Kolme, kaksi, yksi ” Every time I hear that I know it’s going to be a good day! I am slowly learning Finnish one word at a time. So far I have five words- the countdown, sisu and perkele. I know Finns don’t converse much but I don’t think that counts as fluency… Hey, have you guys done shaped charges? They can be tricky to build (going by what I see on the Ordnance Lab channel) and I’ve often wondered how small they can be made and still be effective. I’m talking a centimeter or two in diameter, just big enough to maybe puncture a padlock or something similar. If I had a place to try it (and the necessary training and licensing of course) I would try it myself, but since I don’t have the facility to make videos I wouldn’t be able to share my findings. Is there a lower practical limit for a given choice of explosive and liner material? Seems like there should be but I don’t know for sure. I know you have many ongoing projects, it’s just a suggestion.

My thought is this: imagine what could have happened without the concrete buffer "sheild" or sacrificial barrier? Perhaps there may have been enough energy to penetrate that concrete shield that you hid behind? 🤔 Looking at that 10c piece sized hole that went through the car like swiss cheese 😲 So this answer is that unshielded by car your most likely f****d and slim chance you avoided shrapnel by the larger spray....maybe? If it is the small network cluster then unshielded your going to be riddled with spray like a giant shot gun blast. If they used stainless steel ball bearings though they could be easily removed with a magnet? That's not too say that they haven't hit a vital organ? Shielded by a car you are only protected against the smaller network cluster if you managed to duck down before the blast when you noticed the flash? Otherwise it's going to be facial injuries. Larger cluster rounds pack way more punch because f=m x a. Greater the mass the energy to stop it. You may be able to patch many tiny holes to contain the bleeding; you ain't patching a 10c hole clean cut through someone like a cookie cutter and your friend in the passenger seat only thought about saying "what's that flash" so he's not patching you up? The dude in the passenger rear is cookie cuttered himself as well but likely slightly up more towards the chest so he may be traumatised for shorter duration than yourself? Dude on the driver's rear may have been sitting back far enough in his seat upright from the major holes through the door but the spray through the window probably not? If he ducked down then more of his upper torso would have been in the path of this largest holes through the door...... only probably 5c sized holes but still went through both doors like they weren't there......maybe 🤔 more likely not though lol. The cluster network though means greater the effective distance and more projectiles, so more potential to kill everyone because then nobody has enough blood in them to remain conscious enough to patch themselves let alone anyone else? So do you want faster and rapid or slow painful and traumatic death with hope for survival diminishing faster than quarts of blood?
